Winstrike qualify for IEM Katowice New Challengers Stage

Winstrike are through to the IEM Katowice Major's New Challengers Stage after defeating ViCi 16-14 on Overpass at the Minor Play-in tournament.

ViCi and Winstrike squared off on Overpass in the upper bracket final, with the T-sided Russian side picking up the pistol round victory thanks to two entry kills by David "⁠n0rb3r7⁠" Danielyan. ViCi hit back in the second round as ZhiHong "⁠aumaN⁠" Liu got two Scout kills.

WingHei "⁠Freeman⁠" Cheung's ace made it 3-1 in ViCi's favor but Jan "⁠wayLander⁠" Rahkonen picked up two opening kills in the following rounds to cut the deficit (3-2). ViCi could have extended their lead to 7-2 but n0rb3r7 and Kirill "⁠Boombl4⁠" Mikhailov clutched a 2vs5 to make it 6-3. Winstrike won the following five rounds to lead 8-7 at halftime.

Winstrike are through to the Major's first stage

n0rb3r7 stepped up in the second pistol round, securing it with a quad kill. ViCi responded two rounds later to trail 10-8 and a quad kill by Zhuo "⁠advent⁠" Liang tied the game at 10-10.

Winstrike came back from 13-12 to take four of the final five rounds, winning the match 16-14 after Boombl4 and Georgi "⁠WorldEdit⁠" Yaskin clutched a 2vs3 in the last round. With this victory, the Russian side have qualified for IEM Katowice's New Challengers Stage while ViCi will have another chance to do so in the consolidation final taking place later in the day.
