FURIA eliminate Spirit at IEM Katowice
FURIA had a thunderous start to Mirage, Spirit's map pick, getting a quick 4-0 lead on the CT side. The dominant lockdowns continued in the following rifle rounds, before Rinaldo "ableJ" Moda Junior was forced to take down two in a 2v2 clutch to keep the clean sheet. (7-0)
Vadim "DavCost" Vasilyev's knife kill in a 1v3 afterplant ensured the bomb going off and finally got the Russian side on the board, but they weren't able to build on that, finishing the half with just two rounds in the end. An A push in the pistol round worked out perfectly for FURIA, with Andrei "arT" Piovezan helping his side seal the deal with a triple kill (14-2), DavCost went huge with the Scout in the ensuing force buy to keep Spirit alive,
From that point onwards, FURIA concentrated on pushing towards the A bombsite, but couldn't break through the defenses, allowing Spirit to bring it back to 14-8. That is when arT and co. finally cracked the code, and with the help of Vinicius "VINI" Figueiredo's multikills, closed out the map 16-9.
The Brazilians carried on their momentum onto the second map, Nuke, starting off with a 4-0 lead on the Terrorist side, but this time, Spirit got on the board much quicker, locking down the A approach in back-to-back rounds, shortly evening things up at 4-4. Dmitriy "Dima" Bandurka's team managed to end on top of a back-and-forth period, with Dmitry "S0tF1k" Forostyanko and Pavel "COLDYY1" Veklenko standing out as they finished off the half 9-6 up.
Spirit then won their first pistol round of the map, wrapping the A bombsite from Heaven and just barely held on to the anti-ecos to go up to a huge lead, 12-6. When the rifles rolled in for FURIA, the Brazilian team locked down the outside area and started stringing together rounds. ableJ's quad kill lockdown on Ramp in an anti-eco saw the score quickly tied up at 12-12.
Dima's four kills on the B site approach finally stopped the rut for Spirit (13-13), but after they took the lead, the score was once again equalized following a 4v3 retake on B going the way of FURIA. (14-14) In the penultimate round, two Spirit players died carelessly on the silo, and capitalizing on that mistake was all that FURIA needed to complete the comeback on Nuke and close out the series 2-0.
