Official: StarLadder to host next Major in Berlin

StarLadder has confirmed that it will host the second Major of 2019 in the German city of Berlin.

The 15th Major in CS:GO history will be held in its entirety in Berlin and will culminate with the playoff stages held at the iconic Mercedes-Benz Arena, home of the grand final of the 2015 League of Legends World Championship and of last year's PUBG Global Invitational.

The Minors will be held during the second half of July, while the Major itself will begin on August 20, right after the player break. Schedule-wise, this is a significant change from the FACEIT Major, which began only on September 5 and was the second post-break Big Event, after DreamHack Masters Stockholm.

The StarLadder Major is officially announced

The news marks the return of a CS:GO Major to Germany, where three events of this stature were held on a yearly basis between 2014 and 2016, all of which in Cologne. More significant, though, is the fact that this is the first time that StarLadder has won the right to host a Major, making it one of the most ambitious projects in the history of the Kiev-based company, which has been heavily involved in the Counter-Strike scene since 2012.

"Our company was founded out of an immense passion for Counter-Strike," said Alexander Chegrinez, Head of Business Development at StarLadder.

"Our very first tournaments many years ago started with CS. This game was and remains as a critical part of who we are, we grew up with it, and couldn’t be more excited.

"It is a great honor for us to host the 15th anniversary Major in such a stunning venue, and for such an incredible community! We will do our best to impress the fans and deliver a truly memorable Major!"

StarLadder has not yet announced where the offline stages preceding the Champions Stage will be held, but it is likely that at least some of them will be played at the Berlin studio that the company is about to open for the PUBG Europe League (PEL).

Below you can find the schedule for the different offline stages of the StarLadder Major:

July 17-21 – Europe & Americas Minors
July 24-28 – CIS & Asia Minors
July 29 – Minor Play-in
August 20-25 – Challengers Stage
August 27-September 1 – Legends Stage
September 5-8 – Champions Stage

Details regarding the qualifying process for the Major will be announced at a later stage, while tickets will go on sale in April, StarLadder has announced.

Tbh it also makes sense that the play3rs voted that way because look at it this way. Even though teams played with their rosters for a long time with a major at the end of a season, they are very burned out and you still wont get the highest quality cs from every team. If you do it in the middle of a season, the major loses its value. The beginning of a season makes sense because all the teams are fresh and it starts off the new season with a banger.

2019-02-18 15:37
"even INDIA inst safe" dude everyone knows india isnt safe, 3rd world countries tend to be like that
2019-02-18 18:04
Thats the thing. India is safe. Nothing happens in Mumbai. That is why the event is happening in Mumbai. Unless ofcourse you count out the terrorist attack that happened 12 years ago,and in which i almost died.
2019-02-18 22:50
dude from what im hearing, theres a lot of terrorist attacks, although yeah i understand why you mean Mumbai, its the safest, still not very safe though, I mean. Im all for CS being in india, just stop hacking lol

Its like this for a reason lol, if it was every month than 1. Valve will loose a lot of money with 1 mill prize pools and 2. The novelty will wear off, it used to be 3 a year and that was a bit eh

So if csgo players will increase x2, we will have 4 majors? nice logic, hope this major will be last...

i never said that, im just saying why would they put more money into keeping the cs community alive when dota 2 is more alive, if that makes any sense, and gains them more money, honestly i prefer 2 a year, builds up some suspense,

I understand your problemo. Even I face the same problem regarding time zone for NA majors. I thought you were talking about quality of majors, so that's why talked about eleague, which hosted both NA majors. I watched faze vs cloud9 eleague Boston final. I missed the overpass map for some reason. But I watched the inferno map until the end. It ended at around 4:30 am (my local time - IST). I left dejected after faze lost from 15-11, and slept for an hour before I boarded my college bus at 6 am.

Our population is bigger than: Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, Finland, Norway and the Balkans. Also, we're in the middle of Europe and even though our CS scene is small, there's a lot of czech players actively watching professional CSGO

Currently backpacking across Europe and currently in Berlin (Staying near Alexanderplatz). It is definitely a good city to have a major in, logistically getting to the stadium is easy, it's so close to the city centre and there is such an amazing nightlife scene for spectators outside of tournament hours. Definitely a good decision!
