First ECS Season 7 Challenger Cup teams determined
Four teams have earned spots in the ECS Season 7 Challenger Cups following the end of the first round of qualifiers in Europe and North America.
In the European qualifier, featuring over 200 teams from all over the continent, x-kom were the first team to book a spot in the next stage after defeating ex-Fragsters and forZe in the best-of-three stages, continuing a good run of form across all competitions that has seen them reach the 52nd spot in the ranking - their peak placement to date.
The Polish side were followed by Movistar Riders, who finished in the top two after a hard-fought series against Throw Potential after previously fending off Epsilon in overtime and beating pro100 in a one-sided affair.
Across the Atlantic, the North American qualifier featured little over 30 teams and was considerably less exciting than its European counterpart, with MASSIVEimpact and Zone finishing in the top two after beating Infamous and Final Feature in the semi-final stage, respectively.
Both ECS Challenger Cups will feature a total of 16 sides, eight qualified and eight invited by FACEIT. These teams will square off in a best-of-three Swiss stage, which will determine a ranking that will be used to fill the vacant spots in the ECS regular season tournaments, each one with $25,000 on the line (more details about the season format can be found here).
