Magisk claims IEM Katowice MVP award

Astralis' Emil "Magisk" Reif is the winner of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award of the IEM Katowice Major by HLTV.org and betway.

The 20-year-old capped off a fantastic individual tournament with a 1.28 rating in the 2-0 victory against ENCE. He was only the fourth-best rated player on Astralis in that match but still ended the tournament with the highest playoff rating on the team, 1.37.

That ended up being the deciding factor in the race for the MVP award and what set him apart from teammate Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth, who was another strong contender for the medal.

Magisk is the MVP of IEM Katowice

Nicolai "device" Reedtz, Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen and Aleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev were all also in the running for the honour but ultimately fell out of contention, with Sami "xseveN" Laasanen being the only ENCE member worthy of a mention.

Magisk had the highest KAST of the tournament (80.0%) and was in the top five in six other stats categories, including rating (1.28), damage difference per round (+16.2) and percentage of support rounds (25.3%).

This is the second MVP medal of his career, after also claiming the honour at BLAST Pro Series Lisbon, the last tournament of 2018. He also becomes the third different player to be named the MVP in Astralis' Major winning runs, after Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye, who is currently playing for North, and device.

Below you can find the list of the MVPs of the 14 Majors held so far:

No, just don't like the team I was hoping that Ence could win it because they played real good lately
2019-03-03 22:54
I am Hardcore Astralis fan (I am in Katowice rn) but tbh I wouldnt even be mad if Ence had won... They are really good and have a lot of young potential gods... I like Ence, but right now even them cant defeat Astralis, they are just too strong Which is no reason for me to start hating them

1 lucky play and baiting taco hard doesn't determine a really good player sadly
2019-03-03 21:46
ofc not, winning 2 major MVPs and 2 time player of the year determines it.
2019-03-03 21:55

I'd give it to xyp, but Magisk well deserved too. That's the thing with astralis you could almost always give it any of them.

That has nothing to do with it. For example, I loved Cloud9 vs Faze major or the Astralis vs Virtus.Pro major, and my team didn't go to the final! Those games make people stay on the screen until the last second! On the other hand these last two were BOOORING!

he is the reason they got passed mibr, both their maps were close and he stepped up ence games were a walk over (so stats kind of irrelevant) this is why he got it

This was a hard pick because device showed up so big in the finals. Still the right call, Magisk and Xyp got them there this run, and Magisk's early/mid rounds activated xyp's late rounds
