Favourites prevail in WESG Round of 16
The first round of the playoffs at the WESG 2018 World Finals has come to an end, with the favourite teams winning their respective matches comfortably.
The third day of action in Chongqing began with a mouth-watering clash between defending champions fnatic and last year's third-place finisher, Russia, with the Swedes running out 2-0 victors off the back of a strong display from the 2017 event MVP, Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson.
AGO ran into little trouble to beat the other CIS representative, the Sergey "starix" Ischuk-led Ukraine mix, and will be paired in the next stage with Valiance after the Serbians disposed of Singularity on two maps, the second of which went to overtime.
João "felps" Vasconcellos ended the day as the top performer of the Round of 16 as he averaged a 1.95 rating in MIBR's thrashing of Viva Algeria, followed by Valentin "poizon" Vasilev, who put in a 1.91 rating as Windigo made light work of Furious.
G2 brought down the curtain on the day with a convincing 2-0 victory over Panda, setting up a quarter-final clash with another Asian side, Absolute, who beat TNC 2-0 following an impressive display from star member Koji "Laz" Ushida.
