Favourites prevail in WESG Round of 16

The first round of the playoffs at the WESG 2018 World Finals has come to an end, with the favourite teams winning their respective matches comfortably.

The third day of action in Chongqing began with a mouth-watering clash between defending champions fnatic and last year's third-place finisher, Russia, with the Swedes running out 2-0 victors off the back of a strong display from the 2017 event MVP, Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson.

In the quarter-finals, the Swedish giants will be taking on OpTic, who shook off their group stage setbacks and breezed past Alpha Red in convincing fashion.

fnatic march on to the quarter-finals

AGO ran into little trouble to beat the other CIS representative, the Sergey "starix" Ischuk-led Ukraine mix, and will be paired in the next stage with Valiance after the Serbians disposed of Singularity on two maps, the second of which went to overtime.

João "felps" Vasconcellos ended the day as the top performer of the Round of 16 as he averaged a 1.95 rating in MIBR's thrashing of Viva Algeria, followed by Valentin "poizon" Vasilev, who put in a 1.91 rating as Windigo made light work of Furious.

G2 brought down the curtain on the day with a convincing 2-0 victory over Panda, setting up a quarter-final clash with another Asian side, Absolute, who beat TNC 2-0 following an impressive display from star member Koji "Laz" Ushida.

The schedule for the quarter-finals looks as follows:

06:00 Sweden fnatic vs. Denmark OpTic
09:00 Serbia Valiance vs. Poland AGO
12:00 Bulgaria Windigo vs. Brazil MIBR
15:00 Japan Absolute vs. France G2

Well, windigo is an org from Ukraine, with a Bulgarian lineup, so it can be called both EU and CIS. If we're calling Hellraisers a CIS roster.

So Fnatic can be called UK based,SK- German...do you follow me ? Their origen can be CIS as organization but the team is not CIS...
