G2 breeze past Absolute, conclude WESG 2018 semi-final lineup

G2 made quick work of Absolute on Dust2 (16-1) and Mirage (16-12), securing participation in the semi-finals of the WESG 2018 World Finals.

The last quarter-final series commenced on Dust2, where G2 absolutely dominated on the CT side of the map. A single-faceted approach from the Japanese Ts was punished time and time again, and only in the final round of the initial half were the underdogs able to produce a victory. As such, Absolute concluded their T half with a heavy 1-14 deficit.

The favourites kept Dust2 short, as a consecutive pistol round plus one marked culmination of the map at a 16-1 scoreline.

G2 translated their momentum onto Mirage, where the Frenchmen immediately kicked off to a 4-0 surplus on the T side of affairs. Absolute upset the consecutive string of rounds with a conversion in round 5, only to be succeeded by further domination from G2. In a last-ditch effort, the Japanese defence managed to reset the French economy after consecutive victories, furthering their score by five to G2's two, concluding the intial half 9-6.

A consecutive pistol round victory, this time on the defence, made way for further round disparity in favour of G2. Retaliation from Absolute saw the team pick up their first round upon obtaining rifles, however the French onslaught continued to all the way to 14-7 scoreline. Following this string of losses Ryu "Reita" Oshiro and his squadmates made a valiant effort to mount a comeback, winning five consecutive rounds. Unfortunately for the underdogs, the lead accrued by the Frenchmen was too much to deal with, as the second map, and series, closed 16-12 and 2-0, respectively.
