AGO through to WESG grand final over fnatic
AGO have become the first grand finalists at the WESG World Finals after defeating fnatic 2-1 in the semis, with the Swedes suffering their first-ever 16-0 defeat in the opening map (16-0 on Inferno, 6-16 on Cache, and 16-12 on Nuke).
The best-of-three semi-final between fnatic and AGO kicked off on Inferno, which was fnatic's map pick. Grzegorz "SZPERO" Dziamałek picked up a triple kill to secure the pistol round victory for his T-sided team. AGO made it 3-0 after winning the following two rounds without losing a single player.
The Poles kept their streak alive by picking up a 4vs4 victory in the fourth round despite losing all five of their players. fnatic almost got on the scoreboard in the 11th round but Kacper "kaper" Słoma denied Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin in a 1vs1 situation.
SZPERO clutched a 1vs2 in the 15th round and picked up a triple kill as AGO finished the half 15-0 ahead. fnatic managed to plant the bomb in the second pistol round but AGO's successful retake earned them the 16-0 map win, becoming the first ever team to sweep fnatic with that scoreline.
fnatic started Cache on a more positive note, stopping AGO with Jesper "JW" Wecksell's triple kill in the pistol round. The CT-sided Swedes didn't let AGO plant the bomb until the seventh round when Brollan clutched a 1vs2 to defuse it (7-0). The Polish squad got on the scoreboard in the next round as they came out on top in a post-plant on the B-site.
AGO found themselves in a tough spot after losing two in a row but Damian "Furlan" Kislowski got three Deagle kills to win the 11th round (9-2). SZPERO picked up an AWP quad kill in the 15th round as AGO trailed 9-6 at halftime.
JW and Simon "twist" Eliasson got double kills in the second pistol round as fnatic reached double digits (10-6). Brollan and Richard "Xizt" Landström won a 2vs4 in the 21st round, earning nine map points. fnatic closed it out with a 2vs3 victory and won the map 16-6.
Nuke was the decider and fnatic played on the CT-side in the first half. JW and company won the pistol round thanks to twist's triple kill and extended their lead to 4-0 with ease. AGO responded in the seventh round, winning a 3vs3 post-plant as Tomasz "phr" Wójcik got two kills.
twist stopped AGO's momentum immediately, grabbing an AUG quad kill in a 2vs4 to make it 7-1. AGO managed to stabilize the situation to a certain extent, as they picked up four more rounds to trail 10-5 at halftime.
fnatic lost the first two rounds in the second half but managed to secure the third one by taking the B-site (11-7). AGO came back, winning nine of the following ten rounds and taking the map 16-12 after phr clutched a 1vs1 against Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson in the 28th round. The Poles won the series 2-1 to advance to the grand final at the WESG 2018 World Finals.
