G2 qualify for DreamHack Masters Dallas over AVANGAR

G2 become the second confirmed team to attend DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019 after defeating AVANGAR on Dust2, 16-2, and Cache, 16-8.

G2 and AVANGAR played the last match of the DreamHack Masters Dallas Europe qualifier, the consolidation final, which had one spot up for grabs at the event in Texas. G2 made their way mostly through the lower bracket, as they fell to Windigo in the semi-finals after an opening victory against Heroic. The French squad then won against HellRaisers and Valiance without dropping a map.

In AVANGAR’s case, the Kazakh side beat ex-3DMAX, 2-0, and Valiance, 2-1, before falling to Windigo, the first of two teams to make it through the DreamHack Masters Dallas Europe qualifier, in the upper bracket final.

The first map of the match between G2 and AVANGAR was the French team’s pick, Dust2, and although the CIS side took the pistol round on the CT side, the tables turned the following round as opening kills by François "AmaNEk" Delaunay and Lucas "Lucky" Chastang provided a 5vs3 afterplant situation and ended up with the score tied.

From there on out it was the G2 show, as the Frenchmen gave up but a single round for a 13-2 half, which they were able to hit home after switching sides and winning the pistol round, going on to close it 16-2.

G2 carried the momentum from Dust2 to the CT side of Cache, with Richard "shox" Papillon putting up a great performance early on. AVANGAR made it even, 4-4, but then it was G2 who once again took control and closed the half out 10-5. AVANGAR then won the second pistol round, but were again beaten by a forcebuy, after which G2 went on to close the map and match out comfortably, 16-8.

The DreamHack Masters Dallas Europe Qualifier thus comes to an end with Windigo and G2 being the first two confirmed teams of the sixteen that willl attend the $250,000 event at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, between May 28th and June 2nd.
