Heroic win GG.BET Sydney Invitational to qualify for IEM event
Heroic booked their place in the grand final of the tournament by taking down Sprout, Winstrike, and Virtus.pro in Group B before going on to beat semi-final invitee ex-3DMAX. forZe, on the other hand, became the Danes' opponents after progressing 3-1 in Group A and taking down the other invitee, OpTic, in the semi-finals.
forZe kicked off the first map on Nuke with a three-round lead, but Heroic soon found their footing through numerous opening kills from their AWPer, Daniel "mertz" Mertz. The Danish side went on to post ten rounds consecutively, eventually closing out the half 11-4. The deficit proved too much for the Russian side, with Heroic wrapping up the map 16-13.
The second map in the series, Mirage, saw Heroic start on the CT-side. The two teams could barely be separated with a competitive first half finishing 8-7 in the Danes' favour. forZe still tried to get back in the game with a three-round streak, restoring parity at 10-10, but the Nordic side ran riot after that and locked down the map at 16-11.
