Vitality best G2 in French derby to advance to Charleroi grand final
The series began on Nuke, where a near-clean pistol win pushed G2 to a 3-0 lead as Terrorists as they fended off the second-round forcebuy from their countrymen. With Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt and Alex "ALEX" McMeekin finding a couple of key doubles early, Vitality equalized the scoreline and began taking over the half, as six rounds in a row went their way convincingly.
Before the first half ended, G2 found their way to three more rounds on the back of two triples from Richard "shox" Papillon, but they were ultimately trailing 6-9 before switching over to the defense.
Vitality proceeded to extend their lead to 14-7 after securing the pistol round on a knife's edge and two of the first three gunrounds. There was still life left in G2, who began climbing back off a couple of close defenses, but a halfbuy in the 25th round saw NBK- grab a quad-kill with a Tec-9 to push his team to map point.
Closing out the first map still proved difficult, with Vitality failing to penetrate either bombsite to even put the bomb down, but eventually they found their way through in the very last round of regulation to take the 1-0 lead in the series.
Overpass followed and this time, it was NBK-'s men taking the early lead on the offense and G2 coming out on top of the first few gunrounds, apart from one in which Vitality's in-game leader clinched a 1v3 clutch. shox & co. continued to dominate on the defense, climbing to nine rounds despite the slow start to give themselves a healthy three-round lead.
Barreling to 14-7, G2 were poised to take the match to the deciding Cache, but just like on Nuke, the map then turned on its head, with Vitality taking a stand. Kenny "kennyS" Schrub's team found themselves unable to put the bomb down as their rivals went on a massive streak, clinching match point at 15-14, but a 1v2 from Audric "JaCkz" Jug saw the second map go to overtime. There, G2 completed what they had started earlier in regulation, bagging two rounds in each half, with shox finalizing the map with a 1v3 retake on B.
After two grueling maps, Cache turned out very one-sided. Vitality looked a couple of classes above their countrymen on the T side, locking down a dominant 13-2 half and ending things quickly after swapping sides with a 16-5, 2-1 victory, advancing to the grand final.
