Vitality best G2 in French derby to advance to Charleroi grand final

Vitality have bested G2 2-1 (Nuke 16-14, Overpass 16-19, Cache 16-5) to advance to the grand final at Charleroi Esports, where they will meet Sprout.

The series began on Nuke, where a near-clean pistol win pushed G2 to a 3-0 lead as Terrorists as they fended off the second-round forcebuy from their countrymen. With Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt and Alex "ALEX" McMeekin finding a couple of key doubles early, Vitality equalized the scoreline and began taking over the half, as six rounds in a row went their way convincingly.

Before the first half ended, G2 found their way to three more rounds on the back of two triples from Richard "shox" Papillon, but they were ultimately trailing 6-9 before switching over to the defense.

Vitality proceeded to extend their lead to 14-7 after securing the pistol round on a knife's edge and two of the first three gunrounds. There was still life left in G2, who began climbing back off a couple of close defenses, but a halfbuy in the 25th round saw NBK- grab a quad-kill with a Tec-9 to push his team to map point.

Vitality best G2 in the French battle to make it to the grand final at Charleroi

Closing out the first map still proved difficult, with Vitality failing to penetrate either bombsite to even put the bomb down, but eventually they found their way through in the very last round of regulation to take the 1-0 lead in the series.

Overpass followed and this time, it was NBK-'s men taking the early lead on the offense and G2 coming out on top of the first few gunrounds, apart from one in which Vitality's in-game leader clinched a 1v3 clutch. shox & co. continued to dominate on the defense, climbing to nine rounds despite the slow start to give themselves a healthy three-round lead.

Barreling to 14-7, G2 were poised to take the match to the deciding Cache, but just like on Nuke, the map then turned on its head, with Vitality taking a stand. Kenny "kennyS" Schrub's team found themselves unable to put the bomb down as their rivals went on a massive streak, clinching match point at 15-14, but a 1v2 from Audric "JaCkz" Jug saw the second map go to overtime. There, G2 completed what they had started earlier in regulation, bagging two rounds in each half, with shox finalizing the map with a 1v3 retake on B.

After two grueling maps, Cache turned out very one-sided. Vitality looked a couple of classes above their countrymen on the T side, locking down a dominant 13-2 half and ending things quickly after swapping sides with a 16-5, 2-1 victory, advancing to the grand final.

Shox is still really skilled but G2 is nowhere near Vitality wether it'd be on their map pool etc. Zywoo is a better rifler than Shox and a better awper than KennyS so at this point nothing you could do since Vitality's IGLs and map pool are better. People saying G2 is better/put up a good fight are delusional fanboys living in the past. Vitality choked as always on Overpass and still G2 couldn't even convert and got stomped. G2 didn't even attend starladder series and look how unprepared they were, they're not putting the effort^^
2019-04-14 21:58
That "analysis" is really debatable though.. Did you even watch ? They lost a very close 1st map they should have won if they didn't derp to the max on CT ( NBK pistol 4k ).. If Kenny S showed up instead of Kenny Whiff ( and AmaNEk or Lucky played a bit better on Nuke ) they win this 2-0 so considering they have only been together for a few weeks ( one player changed but the roles/system changed completely on almost every map ) I'd say it's a bit early to say Vitality is a clear #1. Btw ZywOo can be a slightly better than shox and a slightly better AWPer than kenny but that argument doesn't make much sense because he can't hold both an AWP and a rifle in the same round. The big difference is that he still has 2 very strong starfraggers in front of him the day they are ON and he is most likely alone against them ( bare an apEX good day ) And AmaNEk, when playing to his level is also a very strong aimer, very close to those 3 so...

Irrelevant... your comment are full of IFs and what not. They had since the major to prepare this tournament against Vitality and they picked Nuke against them. They're not putting the effort, Amanek was there for a month. After Alex joined, they already had decent results against better teams than G2. I think G2 has a lot of firepower but somehow they still manage to lose rounds even when they have the man advantage. KennyS isn't impactful at all and once he loses against the enemy awper he's whiffing all his shots and becomes useless. Shox against better teams falls off because he has to focus more on strats. They lost convincingly and Vitality choked on Overpass (which is usually a good map for them). I mean Vitality did a lot of mistakes, some they wouldn't have done against ENCE for example and still G2 didn't capitalize on that. Does Vitality needs to give them even more things to exploit in order for G2 to win? Vitality wasn't even playing at their best and this tournament and still won it. Have you seen their inferno? It feels it was a different team than people saw at the major; Tier 3 tournament I guess.
2019-04-15 05:43
Your post is irrelevant. If Vitality is a clear cut #1 why did they need 3 maps to win against a team that has been together for 3 weeks and changed almost all their roles/poses ? G2 might very well take over the #1 spot that Vitality has soon enough. They are #1 but not by much, and unless ZywOo goes on performing like he is s2mple every game they will struggle to remain the #1 french team. Quote me later on that but I think G2 does better than they will at the next major.

"s2mple" ... It's s1mple and did you know that Vitality is rebuilding all over too ? Alex just started to lead on T side since last week and things are completely different according to Apex. Just watch the interview. G2 surely has a new roaster but I don't see them win anytime soon against Vitality, It was a clear cut considering how bad Vitality actually played on their T side. They were awful on Overpass and almost won the game 2 times as well before going to Overtime. If you can't see the difference between G2's level and Vitality's I don't know what to say really. It's not about being assertive, It's about being aware of what's happening on the map at this point. They had a month to prepare together so no shit sherlock, G2 has no excuses.
