FURIA defeat Sharks; to grand final in Rio
The best-of-three semi-final match kicked off on Inferno where the CT-sided Sharks picked up the pistol round victory. FURIA responded in the third round, winning a 3vs3 post-plant to get on the scoreboard.
After losing the following round, FURIA got their second as Yuri "yuurih" Santos and Rinaldo "ableJ" Moda Junior won a 2vs4. FURIA took the lead thanks to Vinicius "VINI" Figueiredo's 1vs3 clutch in the seventh round, making it 4-3. Sharks were never able to build a strong economy on the CT-side and FURIA led 9-6 at halftime.
Raphael "exit" Lacerda and Jhonatan "jnt" Silva's double kills helped Sharks win the second pistol round, starting a four-round streak to reclaim the lead (10-9). FURIA responded in the 20th round by picking up three HE kills and tied the game at 10-10.
FURIA managed to earn four match points after extending their lead to 15-11, with VINI and yuurih carrying the load. Andrei "arT" Piovezan's triple AWP kill sealed the deal for FURIA who won the map 16-13.
yuurih and company started Vertigo on the CT-side and won the pistol round with a successful 5vs5 retake as VINI got a triple kill when his team had a 2vs4 disadvantage. VINI stepped up to the plate in the second round as well, securing the victory with two kills in a 2vs3 post-plant situation.
ableJ won a 1vs2 to make it 5-0 and VINI achieved the same feat in the eighth round, killing two Sharks players on his lonesome to make it 8-0. Sharks grabbed their first round victory thanks to Leonardo "leo_drk" Oliveira's quad kill in the tenth round (9-1).
Sharks were able to increase their tally to four rounds before halftime but they lost the second pistol to trail 12-4. FURIA went on to win the map with a 16-4 final scoreline, taking the 2-0 series victory and advancing to the playoffs at DreamHack Open Rio.
