IEM Sydney groups revealed

ESL have revealed the group draw for the upcoming IEM event in Sydney.

The 16 participating teams have been split into two double-elimination groups according to the ESL CS:GO World Rankings. Only the opening round of matches will feature a best-of-one format, with the remainder of the group stage to be played out in best-of-three fashion.

The group winners will automatically progress to the semi-finals, while the teams who place second and third will be placed in the first round of the playoffs, which will culminate with the best-of-five grand final.

Liquid will be looking to top Group A in Sydney

A total of $250,000 will be on offer at the event, which will kick off on April 30, in addition to a point towards the Intel Grand Slam Season 2. Currently, Astralis are in the lead with a single point, having copped the IEM Katowice Major title in March.

Below are the groups for IEM Sydney:

is fnatic t1? NO (just a reminder: they didnt made it to major(new legendsstage)) and they ve beaten north and and optic (not conisdering t1 either) -->t2 is also able to stun their enemies especially teams like nip or liquid (choke factor)

Tyloo can do that too though, still T2. Fnatic is playing like T2 now but they have not been bad for long enough to change teir. They are just a shitty T1 team atm.

This def. of t1 is very loose. To define mine: Top 30 t3 top 20 t2 Top 10 t1 (Top 1 A Tier) So yah fnatic (#10)is STILL t1!

weakest big event of the year easily

2019-04-26 01:45
nah at least they dont give free spots away to weak aus and asian teams would definitely put them next though plus they have a better format should of been more specific i meant yearly iem sydney is weaker then other tier 1 tourneys

It's not really their fault that Astralis refused to go to Sydney because poor baby device can't travel that far away. The teams will always be a problem in Sydney because some European teams will just refuse to travel so far. Yet despite that Sydney in 2017 (which only had 8 teams at the time) was one of the best events of the year because of it's great crowd and matches. 2018 was great too because of the same reasons.

nice, well balanced groups
2019-04-26 01:40
ESL definitely does better with it's seeding based on their personal rankings. There's 1 team in each group who are favorites to win their groups and another 3 in each group who are having to fight for the other 2 spots.

Do not underestimate Renegades. We've done it too much in 2019 already.
2019-04-26 03:17
Not really. Their path at the major and star series were both easy
2019-04-26 05:59
United States fatburger
In a row renegades had to face nip ence ence faze astralis and vitality and only lost one and that was 1-2 astralis
2019-04-26 10:57
NIP isn't a great team as much as it pains me to say that, ENCE weren't the same team against renegades as they were in the playoffs (renegades got a break there) Faze clearly had their struggles up until winning Blast. And yeah they got a map off Astralis after almost blowing a massive lead. Like I said easy enough. I see you failed to mention their Starladder path because you admit it was easy Tyloo, Garbage MIBR, and Garbage Faze.

LMAO for ENCE ,we never had a more overrated team in the scene. Na'vi is a hit or miss , they will win a hard game but than strugle against windigo or whatever. And I'm pretty sure Astralis got an invite but they declined cuz device can't travel cuz of his health issues...
