DETONA advance to Pro League Finals, Isurus and Infinity survive

DETONA topped Group D at ESL Pro League Season 9 Americas with a 3-0 record to secure a place at the finals, while Isurus and Infinity are through to next group stage from second and third place.

The last day of the first group stage in the Americas saw Isurus take on Infinity in a match for second place in Group D. The Colombian-Guatemalan picked Mirage to start the series, but they couldn't get things going at the beginning of the first half, with Isurus getting off to a 6-1 lead as CT.

Infinity fought back with a six-round streak to gain a one-round advantage, but it didn't last, with the Argentinians closing out the half with the remaining two and putting up a strong offense to secure the opening map 16-9.

Isurus clinched second place in Group D

Isurus kept their momentum on their choice, Dust2, where the two sides went back and forth at the beginning, but it quickly began slipping away from Santiago "Daveys" Galvis' team's grasp.

With Infinity only managing to pick up two more rounds on the CT side, Isurus were in the driving seat with an 11-4 scoreline and didn't take long to finish things off in the second half at 16-7, 2-0.

The last match of the group stage essentially had no meaning, as DETONA had already secured first place on day two after beating Isurus and Infinity, which meant neither team could surpass them in points or come out on top of a tiebreaker, while Denial had also had no chance of survival with two losses to the aforementioned teams due to the same reason.

Nonetheless, Juanes "sickLy" Valencia's team put up a great fight against the Brazilians, with a streaky first half on Overpass seeing Denial get onto an 8-7 lead before switching over to the Counter-Terrorist side. There, they were unable to put up consecutive rounds to stop DETONA's momentum, as Vinicius "vsm" Moreira's squad reached match point at 15-11.

Denial are out of the competition with last place of Group D

Denial clawed back to push the opening map to overtime, where the winner was found only after a grueling four sets, with the Brazilians clinching a 28-24 victory before moving on to their pick, Mirage.

On the second map, Denial once again kept things competitive in the opening half with seven rounds to their name on the CT side, but DETONA's defense was too strong to overcome and the Brazilian side finished the group with a 3-0 record.

With the first group stage coming to an end, the following eight teams are currently qualified for ESL Pro League Season 9 Finals, set to take place in Montpellier, France, on June 18-23:

Two more Americas spots will be on offer in the second group stage. The second and third-placed teams from the first group stage will be split into two round-robin, best-of-three groups, with the winners of each group advancing to the finals, as well. The team list for the second group stage is the following:

After placing last in Groups A, B, and C, INTZ, Lazarus, and Envy will play the runner-up of MDL Season 31 in a pre-relegation tournament, with the winner securing a spot in the tenth season of ESL Pro League. The remaining three teams will then go on to play for another spot in the online relegation alongside MDL's third-placed team.

Denial, who placed fourth in the Latin America group, will go up against the ESL Latin America League Season 4 champion for a place in the next ESL Pro League season.

Honestly it’s fucking embarrassing a team like this gets invited to the finals, simply because they went through the easiest pro league group of all regions.
