NRG secure Group B upper final spot at expense of FaZe; mousesports knock Renegades out of Sydney race
The third series of the day saw FaZe, this time with Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev and Janko "YNk" Paunović on the server, take on NRG for a coveted upper bracket final spot. The two squads kicked affairs off on Train, where a dominant 6-0 lead was accrued by FaZe's defense off the back of early economic issues for the Terrorists. In spite of a spectacular AWP quad kill from Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer in round 7, NRG finally shifted the wave of momentum in their favour, securing their first round of the half. This provided sufficient room for the American squad to significantly bridge the round disparity, concluding the initial half with a 7-8 deficit.
The latter half commenced with a USP-s triple kill from Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov, opening up further comeback potential for his team on the defence. The Bulgarian followed up with a consecutive 3k, but it was incapable of stunting FaZe's aggression in the ensuing four rounds, as the European mix once more leapt into the lead with a 12-9 score. Despite a strong initial showing, the European representatives struggled to work post-plants, and after seven consecutive round losses conceded Train to NRG 12-16, with CeRq once more shining through by closing the map with yet another a triple kill by his weapon of choice - the AWP.
Mirage's early rounds followed a dynamic similar to that of Train, only on this occasion in favour of NRG, where the American representatives opened map two with a four-round lead. This proved to be short-lived, however, as FaZe found more than just footing with six consecutive victories of their own. The concluding engagements of the initial half were up for fierce contention, in the end favouring NRG, albeit at a 7-8 deficit on the defence.
Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte got into the thick of the latter half with a quad kill on the offense, yielding his team a round equaliser. Unfortunately for NRG this didn't yield immediate results, but after the team was able to subsequently upset the CT economy, the American squad had FaZe pressured. Consistently Damian "daps" Steele and his teammates were able to breach sites, and having conceded just three rounds, went on to decimate their European opponents on the latter half, securing a 2-0 record through a 16-11 victory on Mirage.

In a fight for survival, mousesports took on Renegades, with both sides eagerly looking to extend their tournament life. The two squads got things going on Train, where Finn "karrigan" Andersen and his men got off to a convincing offense, having copped the initial pistol, and despite a second-round upset, persevered to a 6-1 lead. This was met with retaliation from Renegades, who concluded the half with two three-round strings, spaced by two round losses at 7-8.
The local favourites saw early success on the T side in the form of a fruitful pistol with two follow-up rounds, but once rifles were seen in mousesports' hands, the momentum parted the Australians' grip. Captain karrigan and his men systematically dispatched the aggressors, preventing a single bomb plant in all eight of the rounds that the squad went on to win, culminating in a 16-12 victory on Train.
Contrary to Train, Inferno saw a very lop-sided affair in the initial half. The mousesports defence demonstrated an immaculate performance, whereby seven consecutive round victories made for a confident lead. Aaron "AZR" Ward and company proceeded to struggle on the offense immensely, able to assert themselves only on a grand total of four, producing a comfortable 11-4 surplus for mousesports.
The second pistol round was absolutely pivotal, round disparity consider, and thanks to four frags from Robin "ropz" Kool, mousesports were able to continue their reign, now on the offense. Renegades copped three rounds in a last-ditch effort to come back into the series, but unfortunately proceeded to falter, unable to answer the mousesports aggression in adequate fashion. This subsequently lead to the Australians' elimination by a 0-2 series score, concluded with a 7-16 loss on Inferno.
