FaZe best G2 in triple-overtime marathon to advance to DH Masters semis

FaZe have bested G2 2-0 following a triple-overtime battle on Dust2, advancing to the semi-finals at DreamHack Masters Dallas, where they will take on ENCE.

G2 chose Inferno to kick off the second quarter-final, but it was FaZe who got off to the better start with a key double from Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer giving them the pistol round. Trading the first couple of gunrounds, the European mixture were in control of economy and continued to control the half with a 6-1 lead.

Richard "shox" Papillon's 1v3 clutch on the B bombsite in the following round inspired the Frenchmen to get back on their feet and secure five rounds, but more big plays from olofmeister saw FaZe close out the half with a comfortable 10-5 lead before switching over to the offense.

There, Filip "NEO" Kubski & co. rallied to map point with five in a row, and although G2 tried to hold on, they were too far behind to attempt a real comeback as FaZe finished off the opening map at 16-8, denying Audric "JaCkz" Jug a close 1v3 clutch attempt.

GuardiaN put up a key performance on Dust2 to finish off the series

Dust2 followed with FaZe once again taking point, this time on the back of a quad-kill play from Håvard "rain" Nygaard in the first pistol round. With Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács putting up a fantastic ace in the fifth round, the score was soon 6-2 in favor of his team, but that is when G2 began finding success. Two A attacks went their way, which broke the bank of FaZe, who struggled for the rest of the first half, apart from one round in which the Slovakian defended B one more time with a triple-kill.

The back-and-forth continued in the second half, with G2 clinching the pistol round and FaZe responding in the second. Janko "YNk" Paunović's side retook the lead at 10-9, but it didn't last long, as shox and Kenny "kennyS" Schrub ensured four in a row. Still, it wasn't enough to end things in regulation, with FaZe stepping up late to bring the second map to overtime.

After being unable to close out their first match point opportunity in regulation, FaZe kept struggling at the final hurdle, as they were in the same position twice more over the course of the first two sets of overtime, with kennyS often playing spoiler in late-round scenarios. Finally, in the third, FaZe managed to come out on top after another full set, with GuardiaN and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač both breaking the 40-kill mark at 25-23.

Yeah I should have rather said Rain-Olof-Guardian trio. They don't rock the house yet but they finnaly show up something. I have these ECS match vs VP in memory when they barely won and entire team was below 1.0 except Niko who was carrying with 1.4, it was that way like every match back then. Since rooster change Niko looks less dominating but his teammates finnaly are working together for the win. Speaking of NEO - I had no expectations toward him, have seen his minor qualifier with Pasha mix and he wasn't showing up, he doesn't here as well. Hope he will be good as IGL and maybe as support taking some Guardian/Rain responsibilities?
2019-06-01 03:43
Yeah rain has been good this year, even better at this event, and olof has been making me optimistic Neo hasn't been very good but if the team can finally gel on their t sides they shouldn't have a problem beating teams outside of liquid and astralis/navi if they stay strong I'll be looking to guardian to be the difference maker as the event progresses
2019-06-01 03:47
His job is not to frag, if all other 4 players stepping up ever since neo joined, that means he is doing something beneficial for the team even if it is his calling style or taking hard roles in map to have his star players be comfortable and fragging. Also as a matter of fact, neo did clutch an impactful 1v3 today in ot. So stop shitting on him and appraise the legend as he is.
2019-06-01 03:50
I think you replied to the wrong guy but fuck you anyway Its just one event so its too soon to say anything positive, and their T sides still are shambolic to boot Most in game leaders take tough spots and play a supportive role. That doesn't suddenly make them great players And sweet he got a 1v2 in OT great impact but let's not act like karrigan or any number of players are worse clutchers And you basically invalidated every point you just made by saying I need to respect him because he was on a good team 2 years ago. Stop jerking him off. Wait for them to win the event at least lmao
2019-06-01 04:08
People like u on forums think they are perfect analysts when u criticize a team/player but in actuality u r only being pessimistic and shitty keyboard warrior with no real argument to support ur claims. Yeah of course faze's t side must be total shit when they just recently forced world's 2nd best team to edges with barely any practice with new lineup. Lmao If u can't encourage a good performance, u don't hold any authority to criticize an imperfect performance either. As i said, appraise the legend. Stay humble stay down. Don't try to mould my words into ur own benefit. I never mentioned about neo's past team or anything. U just seem more desperate to look smart here but failing miserably.
2019-06-01 04:23
Guess how many T halves faze won against liquid? Its 0 I'm not criticizing any performance I'm saying its too soon to say You're just trying to act all enlightened but please be real for a second windigo has won a higher percentage of terrorist rounds at this event than faze, and neo has a .91 despite some dominant victories Your half baked praise might be better received over on reddit and really "stay humble stay down" I mean honestly who the fuck says that And the audacity of you to say that its my arguments that aren't supported is laughable An armchair analyst I might be but the way you talk it sounds like you haven't even watched the matches
2019-06-01 04:39
umm did you even ascertain the point the guy made? you can't make a proper reply if all you're gonna do is type half-assed insults and not try to understand the point they're making lol. its ok, i recognize its psychology and you're using insults to somehow propel your arguments but honestly you're the one who looks bad. so easy to criticize but not have any solutions yourself isn't it? yeah, just wait till FaZe become top 3 under NEO, then you'll shut up.
2019-06-01 07:45
I'm really sorry to interrupt you two but bot of your arguments are just whack. I dislike FaZe a lot, watched bits of some of the recent matches and they seemed to be a better team than usual. You (sexhaver420) don't even have proper arguments without realizing it because all you're actually saying is "Okay, they played better than before but let's pretend they didn't (why the shittalk?) we need to see how they do in the future (fair enough, the only real 'argument' you're having). I totally agree with this, every team has to wait and build on a good result towards consistency but that's not a reason to deny a solid and better result than usually. Your aggressive tone doesn't make your other what you call "arguments" (maybe you check that definition again) better but just shows your subjectively standing in this conversation. And what the hell are you bringing up? Some random "stats" or numbers with no relation to your "arguments" or FaZe tell us nothing. You're comparing Windigo - a lower bracket team to FaZe - an upper bracket team. Upper bracket > Lower bracket that's why these are called liked that. There's a reason for both teams to be there (and for Windigo to be out of the tournament). (Btw FaZe played a harder Semifinal right now, a harder bracket and 8 maps in total (3 against liquid) while Windigo played 5 against the likes of Tyloo. Of course some random stats are going to be worse of FaZe in comparison. Should they next time lose their first game to get better stats against lower teams for you to call them better? What you're doing is just unnecessary stathunting instead of focussing on their progress. You're also bringing the rating of an igl up. Remeber the fnatic era with pronax back in the days? Think about his rating back then. Impact =/ Rating. Impact is what makes the result so just lean back and see what's going to happen in the future. (I'm not saying it will work, we just don't know that right now. As a FaZe disliker i personally don't even need them at the top again. I'm just trying to say you're focussing on the wrong aspects of this game like the average hltv brain.)

Has nothing to do with the pressure of winning or losing the game, it was the closeness of the rounds and the way they were being won/lost. Watching Faze in an afterplant situation is a little like watching your phone slowly slide off a desk when you're too far away to catch it.

Who had a ACE with 2 hp Who killed 2 players while rotating to save the match Niko played a lot with the AWP while Guardian played with the AUG
2019-06-01 03:51
Yeah i'm not talking about who had more impact in game coz that can be influenced by lot of other factors like whose team supported in better way. When guardian aced, there were constant flashes from his team that assisted him. However head to head kenny awped guardian more times than guardian awped kenny. That's the only thing i mentioned. And still if u wanna talk about impact, it was basically guardian, rain and niko vs kenny and maybe lucky.
2019-06-01 04:09
Whole map GuardiaN 13:11 kennyS. Inferno: GuardiaN 6:2 kennyS, Dust 2: GuardiaN 7:9 kennyS...
2019-06-01 03:52
We are talking about awp kills here. Comparing 2 awpers not players. Where kenny excelled
2019-06-01 04:05
Kenny 0.97 rating Guardian 1.34 rating Who's better lol
2019-06-01 03:52
That's coz kenny didn't perform in first map whereas guardian performed in both but kenny still beat him in all other stat departments. Which shows kenny at his peak >>> guardian at his peak.

Yes :/
2019-06-01 03:47
Whole map GuardiaN 13:11 kennyS. Inferno: GuardiaN 6:2 kennyS, Dust 2: GuardiaN 7:9 kennyS...
2019-06-01 03:51
And?
2019-06-01 03:52
Nothing, just you all are acting like it was just kennyS and GuardiaN did nothing against him. :)
2019-06-01 03:53
Which is absolutely not the case, you just got triggered but there's nothing too Bad about it
2019-06-01 03:54
Maybe I shouldn't answer to you, but everyone is going by the last map and not by the facts and that could be what "triggered me" as you called it.
2019-06-01 03:56
Yes this whole conversation Was about Dust2. Inferno was pretty boring to watch, so yes, people will mostly talk about the last map which was way more entertaining. And kenny took the better of Guardian there, he also won the more important Fights and thats why it will stay in peoples minds. Its always like that. Guardian is the Kind of guy who plays pretty solid most of the time and has good impact overall, but people seem to favor the flashy, crazy Highlights that kennyS is known for.
2019-06-01 04:00
Not meaning Guardian has none of these Highlights ofc
2019-06-01 04:01
I got you and I agree with you. Just sometimes I have the need to wrote the whole story not just the part of it. I'm sorry if one of my comments were somehow offensive.
2019-06-01 04:05
