NRG to field daps at ESL Pro League S9 Finals

Damian "daps" Steele will play one last tournament for NRG at the ESL Pro League Season 9 Finals, team coach Chet "ImAPet" Singh has announced.

The 25-year-old, who was moved to the bench on Tuesday, accepted to compete with the team in Montpellier as his replacement, Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz, "is not eligible to play", ImAPet explained.

daps was removed from the active line-up almost two years into his second playing stint with NRG, during which the team picked up three title wins on LAN and reached the semi-finals at five Big Events, peaking at No.4 in the rankings in February.

daps will lead NRG in Montpellier

In a statement, the Canadian tactician admitted that he does not know what the future holds, adding that he is "open to any offers in any field".

NRG have been drawn in Group A, alongside seven other teams, two of them also in the top 10 (Astralis and fnatic), and are due to face Richard "Xizt" Landström's side in their opening match of the tournament, on June 18.

The North American team will attend the French event with:

United States Tarik "tarik" Celik
United States Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte
United States Ethan "Ethan" Arnold
Bulgaria Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov
Canada Damian "daps" Steele

Okay? Daps had this same team for a year in a half and couldn’t win shit. Only tier 5 tournaments
2019-06-12 22:57
" the team picked up three title wins on LAN and reached the semi-finals at five Big Events, peaking at No.4 in the rankings in February." How is this a win for NRG? They have all the fragpower, stanislaw probably won't bring enough to the table to fix this I hope stanislaw fixes it thought, but i doubt it.

How is making semis and losing everytime for a year good? This team could’ve easily had at least 1 big event trophy like Starladder or this recent ECS if they didn’t have bot daps holding them down. Answer me this: How many teams are winning championships with a player with a .87 rating on LAN?

Say what?
2019-06-12 23:05
Well, since he is still under contract he has no right to decline, formally. Moraly he should ofcourse, but since they still pay him his salary and since they always treated him well ( i figure since its his 2nd stint with them), he has no reason to reject playing. + people know now he is gonna be free soon, so if he just plays for his own stats, he could earn a contract on another team?

Dude's getting paid to play, why not?
2019-06-12 22:43
Dude just got unceremoniously kicked by his teammates, 3 of which were nobodies and had accomplished nothing before he become their IGL and made into a top 5 team in the world at one point. All of that just to bring stanislaw who has done absolutely nothing in his last 3 teams. In Liquid he tried a power move, wanted to kick zews, it backfired and the players instead chose to kick him. In Optic it was a shitshow he had a potential top 5 player in k0nfig, what did he do with him ? Not even gonna talk about coL I know they'll never shut up about their top 8 at the major but it was 3 fluky bo1s not even any bo3 back then. But oh well tarik likes him better than daps.

I think it's just attests to Daps looking oast the industry politics, and just wants to play. I mean no one knows the full story yet.
2019-06-12 22:52
Team wants better results LoL. Stanislaw is an upgrade, not directly. Team with fraggers like these, if allowed to play loose, may well produce better results.. just look at Liquid 4Head
2019-06-12 23:07
They should have given this lineup more time, they made playoffs/semi finals at every event they attended with this lineup except Dallas. And if they want better results changing IGL is not the only fix, some of these individuals have to step up
2019-06-12 23:09
Yea exactly.. Made playoff at 1st event Fast forward 3 months... still playoff .. smh And team was nowhere close to using tarik properly.. daps was lazy.. just directly replaced fugly with tarik on overpass and a few maps.. this ain't the way to win events
2019-06-12 23:11
i agree with you on the daps part. he has done a great job and also making good plays latley. at stanislaw i just dont know since he hasent shown anything. hope its a motivation issue or something and maybe daps will come back and also stanislaw bring some new ideas that can work with this team to get them closer to top5 which is their potential
2019-06-12 23:23
everyone knew stan only left complexity to replace an IGL on another team, hes a really good IGL, but he can't commit to a team for longer than a 1 year span. It just makes me so mad that daps had to get replaced by a guy that will leave when he gets bored of NRG

Dude also has a valid contract with NRG. He even could get sanctioned if he just refuses to play. +It's a chance to get more price money and give a good show for potential new teams.
