NRG, eUnited secure Americas Minor spots

NRG and eUnited have claimed spots at the Americas Minor after winning their respective upper bracket quarter-final matches in the North American closed qualifier.

With FURIA and Lazarus already through to the regional event, the upper bracket quarter-finals continued with a clash between eUnited, one of the heavy favourites heading into the tournament, and New Identity, who had caused the biggest upset of day one by sending Cloud9 to the lower bracket.

Austin "Cooper-" Abadir's troops took the lead in the series with a convincing 16-8 victory on Mirage, New Identity's map pick. Things were more even on the second map, Dust2, but eUnited still managed to come out victorious thanks to an inspired performance by Kaleb "moose" Jayne, who put in a 1.52 rating.

NRG move on to the Americas Minor

Meanwhile, NRG had to go the full distance to beat Singularity in a strange series in which all maps were one-sided. Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz was playing only his second match for NRG, but all eyes were on Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte, who averaged a 1.55 rating and boasted a +29 KDD to help his team claim a spot at the event in Berlin.

The Americas Minor will be held from July 17-21 and will feature the top six sides from the North American qualifier and the two best teams from the South American qualifier. The team list for the event currently looks as follows:

The North American closed qualifier will resume at 18:10, with eight teams - including Luminosity, Envy and ATK - in contention for the final two spots at the Minor.
