TeamOne, Singularity round out Americas Minor list
The final day of the closed qualifier began with eight teams still in contention for the prize - the chance to attend the next Americas Minor. The opening round went according to script as all the favourites managed to progress, with Envy the only team who required three maps to beat their opponent, New Identity.
The Brazilian derby between TeamOne and Luminosity opened the action in the third lower bracket round and, as many had predicted, it was a nail-biting affair. Luminosity claimed the first map with a vintage performance by Lucas "LUCAS1" Teles, who put in a team-leading 1.49 rating, but then TeamOne reverse swept the series with strong individual performances by Alencar "trk" Rossato and Pedro "Maluk3" Campos.
The qualification comes as a massive boost for TeamOne, who have not attended a LAN event since the previous Minor. As for Luminosity, the defeat was a bitter pill to swallow, and it raises questions about the team's form heading into the ESL Pro League Season 9 Finals, next week.
The other qualifying match followed the same pattern as the team who claimed the first map fell short in the end. Envy drew first blood with an overtime victory on Inferno, but they could do little to stop the Singularity duo of Ricky "floppy" Kemery and Ryan "ryann" Welsh, who carried the team to convincing victories on the next two maps.
The Americas Minor will be held from July 17-21 in Berlin and will see eight teams - six coming from the North American qualifier and two from the South American qualifier - square off for two spots in the StarLadder Major's New Challengers Stage.
The final team list for the event is the following:
