bubble: "By the end of the year we want to be a top 10 team, that is our main goal"
The Bulgarian team raised eyebrows earlier in the year when they reached the 13th spot in the rankings after winning the WESG Finals, but they have struggled to find the same form since then.
After going out of the ESL Pro League in the first group stage, Windigo had to attend DreamHack Masters Dallas with a stand-in, Buğra "Calyx" Arkın, and were eliminated from the tournament following defeats to FaZe and North. The team then took another heavy blow when it failed to qualify for the Europe Minor after being outdone by Ancient and NoChance in the closed qualifier.
With the memory of the Minor qualifier still fresh, we quizzed bubble on Windigo's struggles in the last few months, his expectations for Moche XL Esports and Valentin "poizon" Vasilev's impact since joining the team.
You are one of the two high seeds for this tournament along with FURIA. What are your expectations for this tournament?
We want to play the final, probably against FURIA because they are here to win, for sure. Hopefully, we will win our match.
How are things looking right now? You had an amazing run earlier in the year, when you won the WESG Finals, but things seemed to have slowed a bit since then. What is going on?
Like you said, we had a pretty good run at WESG. It was an amazing experience for us and we wanted to use that experience in the Pro League and in other tournaments. But in the Pro League we missed some things, we did not work on our anti-eco rounds and I think that was our biggest mistake. That is why we lost two of the matches, in my opinion. At DreamHack Masters Dallas we were missing blocker, we had only three days to practice with Calyx and we played more like a mix.
What happened in the Minor qualifier?
We wanted to go to the Minor to be able to get to the Major. Our preparation was good, we tried to use what we did in practice in the official matches but it did not work. Something went wrong, we lost our comfort zone and it was like a snowball after that. We have analyzed everything. We saw that we played really fast, that was probably one of the mistakes that I made in some of my calls. We also lost eco rounds after winning pistols and it created a snowball effect. Besides, our individual game was not on point. It was a bunch of things.
What kind of impact will this have on the team?
I would say that, right now, we are going to work on our mistakes, the ones we made not just in in the qualifier but in the last three tournaments. By the end of the year, we want to be a top 10 team, that is our main goal. We need to learn from our mistakes.
Do you think, since you played so well at the WESG Finals, that other teams are becoming more wary of your team and are starting to analyse you more?
I think so. Before that, everyone watching us thought we were underdogs, but after we won WESG people saw that we were better than they initially expected. They are probably preparing more when they have to face us.
poizon has been playing at a very high level for your team. Are you impressed with the way that he has been performing? Do you think it will be hard to keep a player like him if some big teams try to get him?
I do not know, you probably have to ask him that, but what I see is that he keeps showing amazing individual performances, and I would not be surprised if some of the best teams contacted him. I do not know if he would leave or continue to play with us.
