ESL One Cologne groups, schedule revealed

ESL has revealed how the teams have been split into the two double-elimination groups for the upcoming ESL One Cologne event.

The tournament will open with the current No.1 team in the world Liquid taking on MVP PK, and with Natus Vincere facing mousesports on what will be Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov's debut for the CIS team.

NRG will go up against FURIA in a rematch of the recent ECS Season 7 Finals group encounter, which the North Americans won 2-0, while FaZe will be taking on Renegades.

Na`Vi will kick off the action against mousesports

In Group B, all eyes will be on the debutants as Lucas "LUCAS1" Teles will play his first match for MIBR against fnatic, while Nicolas "Plopski" Gonzalez Zamora will make his first appearance in a NiP jersey against Vitality.

Astralis and ENCE, the heavy favourites in the group, will be both confident about their chances to reach the upper bracket semi-finals after being paired with BIG and Heroic, respectively.

The double-elimination group stage will be played backstage from July 2-4 and feature a best-of-three format after the first round of fixtures. The group winners will secure direct entry into the semi-finals, while the second and third-placed teams will advance to the quarter-finals.

The playoffs will be held at the Lanxess-Arena and will culminate with the best-of-five grand final on Sunday at 16:00.

The groups for ESL One Cologne are the following:

Both teams have a ton of talent and are trying to gain traction, Renegades more for trying to get their teamplay back, and FaZe that and working on their map pool. Should be a good game

4 close games to start it out with: NaVi/Mouz Faze/Renegades Furia/NRG MiBR/Fnatic My guess is Mouz, Faze, NRG... that last one is a real mystery: MiBR??
2019-06-27 15:43
it will be easy walk for faze nothing close here

2019-06-27 15:47
All teams on left except mibr tbh
2019-06-27 15:48
They've splited the teams amazingly well. Both groups have: 4 teams tough to beat: liquid, navi, faze and furia // ast, mibr, vita, and ence. 3 teams that can surprise: nrg, rng and mouse // heroic, nip and fnatic. 1 team that probably not going to do much: mvp and big. Edit: Most likely one of the best events of the year.

Its kind of BS that big gets an invite but i guess its a trade off for a good event
2019-06-27 15:52
Big got invited due the fact that the event is in germany so is logical to have a local team.

Ik why they were invited, but giving an invite to a team that has impressed no one, simply due to where they are from is kind of sad.
2019-06-27 16:06
well, thats just business. Tbh big isn't that bad and like #185 said it is good for the atmosphere of the whole event and the amount of people going to the venue.
2019-06-27 16:16

That's what they said last year too, remember what happened? Even though BIG lacks current form, nobody should rule them out completely. Also having a home team is always good for the atmosphere of the whole event aswell, especially in such a great arena which is Cologne.

2019-06-27 16:51
From what we've seen so far Furia had way better results then mouse. Furia renewing their contracts is a relfex of the teams achievementes this year so far. Mousesports is showing a good teamplay with is really important for their sucess in a long term. So for now i would say furia>mousesports.

lul hltv ranking is pure of shit brother they kinda decide what tournament has more important and they called"relevancy" in the other hand for esl its known that which tournamanets ll be more importans with stats wise. they split the tournaments to three catogories. you can read it from esl's site. it is explained well at there mate

Well, since it's still that stupid system in which they don't play all of their opponents, it may lead to whatever result, but if to regard their level of play only, I'd say: 1. Liquid 2. NRG 3. FURIA 4. mousesports 5. Na`Vi 6. FaZe 7. Renegades 8. MVP PK 1. Astralis 2. ENCE 3. Vitality 4. MIBR 5. fnatic 6. NiP 7. BIG 8. Heroic
2019-06-27 16:24

Unbalanced groups I mean jst look at the competition in group B .. all top teams While group A is all about navi liquid and faze
2019-06-27 22:15
Why has this format with direct spots in semis become a standard? Its such a fking lazy way off cutting down on arena time. Such a stacked tournament and we only get 6 teams going through aswell as missing out on two potentially great quarterfinals. Its so common for one of the lower teams to get a direct semi spot aswell if they catch fire in the groups, this makes the tournament feel a lot less prestigious in my opinion.
2019-06-28 01:08
Some of those teams haven't shown for days or months. Dont debate for things we all dont know at all. 'omegalul' is cheap, cry is free. WIN is real. Let's wait and see.
