eUnited beat FURIA to qualify for ESL One New York

eUnited punched their ticket to ESL One New York after defeating FURIA in two maps in the grand final of the North American closed qualifier.

The tournament featured a slightly different set of teams from the one originally announced, with INTZ and New Identity being called at the last minute to replace Ghost and Cloud9.

Complexity took revenge against Envy for the defeat in the IEM Chicago qualifier in the headline match of the first round but were then eliminated in the semi-finals by eUnited in a two-map series.

MarKE led the charge for eUnited against FURIA

On the other side of bracket, Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato stole the show as he inspired FURIA to reach the final stage with a 1.39 rating in the three-map victory over TeamOne and a 1.61 rating in the 2-0 success over Lazarus.

The Brazilian youngster carried that form into the final, but he was still powerless to prevent eUnited from running away with the victory. The North American side were far too strong on Overpass, where they claimed a 16-3 victory thanks to a dominant performance by Edgar "MarKE" Maldonado (+24 KDD, 2.57 rating). Vertigo, FURIA's map pick, was a much tighter affair, but Austin "Cooper-" Abadir's charges still pulled through with another 30-bomb, this time by Kaleb "moose" Jayne.

eUnited are now the fourth team confirmed for ESL One New York, joining the invited trio of Liquid, Astralis and ENCE. The event will be held at the Barclays Center from September 26-29, with $200,000 on offer.

The team list for the event currently looks as follows:

That the ranking isn't representing in every case the form of the moment of a team
2019-06-28 11:49
No, there are flaws in it which makes a fluke team appear in the rop of it during a way to long time. Should just include a top 20 (for example) and it should be updated every second or third ”big” tournament. This would make the top of the ranking more accurate and avoid flukes. Now it’s adapted to include ALL teams which makes the top of it totally inaccurate.

bro why are you caring the hltv ranking anyways furia is top 15 at esl ranking rn esl's ranking is much better and well explained at least in the other hand for hltv ecs is hugeeee tourney omegalul
2019-06-28 12:21
hltv uses a base amount for every tournament depending on prizepool category (1-99k, 100-249k, 250k+), then extra points are added for each top30, top20 and top10 team at the tournament. so ecs, only having 8 teams, has less points than any of the 16 team esl lans and the major with 24 teams has the most. as for esl, their ranking is biased towards their own tournaments, they consider the proleague as having 22+ teams, so they include the qualifiers, but for ecs they only include the 8 teams at the finals. also, they're not consistent at all. ecs s7 counts as small, but ecs s6 counts as large and somehow there's no medium tournaments at all, ever.

man ofc esl's tournaments are most importans are in the scene after the majors majors intel grand slam master tournaments and others its ridicilous that hltx adds extra points added when the top rankings team included (for their rankings ofc) for exp ence ,vitality, furia didnt play at the epl and these should be reduced in terms of points howewer the epl 's points were reduced at hltv cuz of these teams are not included but this isnt fault the other teams they qualified and deserve to play here but these are just my ideas ps: bot hltv and esl includes blast as well im not even talking about these its so so unfair the others which dont have negotiations with blast...
2019-06-28 13:13
but that's what effectively happened, all the teams that were not at epl (ence, vit, furia) "lost" points, relative to all the teams that did, by not attending. everyone around them gained points while they stayed where they are. what is hltv supposed to do about the fact that not every tournament has all top10 teams there? they can only give points based on the teams that actually attend. more top10 teams, more points. it's true that epl's points on hltv would have been higher if those missing top10 teams had attended, but we're talking about a few %. also, imo starseries and eleague premier are just as important as grand slam events. starseries dropped off a little because some top teams skipped the last 2 seasons, but it'll be back next season. and considering grand slam events like sao paolo, new york and chicago only have 8 teams, i'd put them same as ecs or maybe even blast pro, below starseries and eleague.
2019-06-28 15:04
the rankings have always included all teams that play any official matches. how many teams are shown on the list every week doesn't change the rankings at all. also, the rankings are relative, not absolute. there are "raw" points and "final" points. in each category teams earn raw points by playing matches. then the team with the most raw points has their points converted to 500/300/200 final points for the achievements/lan/form category. then all the other teams have their points converted with the same factor. that system has always been used. and updating the rankings only after 2 or 3 big tournaments would make the problem with fluke teams being high in the rankings even worse. if one of those fluke teams places high in the "big" tournament you want to update after, they would stay high untill you update again, which could be months.
2019-06-28 12:38
So by haveing a good placement in ONE tournament, not attending the second and being eliminated in the groups of the 3rd would make this fluke team haveing a good placement on the list? (just an example). I don't think you got the point ..
2019-06-28 13:11
it depends on when you want to update the ranking. you said you wanted to update the ranking every 2 or 3 big events. so if the fluke team has good result in a tournament right after an update, they won't be high by the time it gets updated again (like in your example), but if they have the good result in a tournament right before the update, they will be high and stay high for even longer than usual. so what's your proposal? everytime a team that isn't in the top10 has a top4 finish at a big event, you don't update the ranking until that team drops off again?

Expected honestly. This is what happens when you make your players enter into contracts longer than 2 years lul. Exactly what happened with VP. The guaranteed financial stability makes people slack off subconsciously. Their hunger (no pun intended) just won't ever be the same.

I know, but they're still gonna get paid nevertheless. I'm not saying they're slacking off on purpose. It's just that the urgency won't be as strong as before and I think that's enough to affect their performance, which is totally out of their control. I'm just saying that a person who has guaranteed pay until next year only will definitely need to grind more desperately than a person who has guaranteed pay for the next 5 years.

I agree, but if some player wait for him in some pixel, one or two players every round waiting for him, on map like Vertigo, he won't scape. He must do it sometimes... Eco round and some full round, no every round.
