Na`Vi beat mouz on Boombl4 debut; Liquid squeeze past resilient MVP PK
The first main stream match of the tournament, headlined by Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov's debut for Natus Vincere, started with the CIS winning a flawless pistol round and following that up with both anti-ecos to secure a 3-0 lead.
It looked like a promising star for the Russian team, but mousesports took control of proceedings once they had money in the bank. Finn "karrigan" Andersen's troops wreaked havoc with a double AWP setup and lost just a sole round throughout the rest of the half, and it was courtesy of a quad-kill by Aleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev, who racked up 16 kills on the offensive side, seven more than any of his teammates.
After switching to the CT side, Na`Vi won a much-needed pistol round, but things quickly soured for them as Chris "chrisJ" de Jong pulled off a 1v3 clutch in the third round. The CIS side were unfazed, however, and kept a water-tight defense, keeping their opponents from stringing rounds together.
Na`Vi eventually hit match point at 15-14 off the back of a five-round winning streak. mousesports then thought that they were going into overtime as they found themselves in a 4v2 post-plant situation, but the CTs miraculously managed to turn it around following three key frags by a sneaky Denis "electronic" Sharipov.

Meanwhile, Liquid required all 30 rounds to take down MVP PK, the lowest seed of the tournament. The North American team, who are widely regarded as the red-hot favourites for the title, got off to a solid start on the CT side of Nuke, but the South Koreans improved as the game wore on and dominated the final stages of the half to take an 8-7 lead off the back of some crucial rounds by Gu-Taek "stax" Kim.
Liquid picked up the pace on the Terrorist side and eventually reached match point at 15-12. A last-gasp effort by MVP PK saw them take the game the full distance, but it would be in vain as the North Americans locked down the map in the 30th round to prevent overtime and to progress in Group A's upper bracket.
