NRG overrun FURIA; FaZe edge past Renegades in Cologne

NRG and FaZe are through to Group A's upper bracket semi-finals at ESL One Cologne after picking up victories over FURIA and Renegades, respectively.

After two highly-contested games to open the day, ESL One Cologne brought its first one-sided affair as NRG made light work of FURIA on Nuke. Only one place currently separates the two teams in the world rankings, but it seemed like a game between sides from different levels as the North Americans were superior in every department.

The Brazilians struggled immensely on the Terrorist side as they were constantly put on the back foot, forced to work hard to overcome early deaths. Two rounds were all that they could muster in the half, and those wins came off the back of individual plays rather than great teamwork.

NRG were far too strong for FURIA on Nuke

The second half began at a frantic pace, with rounds going back and forth as neither side seemed to able to get a grip on the game. After reaching match point at 15-3, NRG took their foot off the gas for a while, but they were simply too far ahead to let the win slip through their fingers, eventually sealing the deal in the 23rd round with nothing but pistols.

The final match of the first round in Group A was a tightly-contested affair between FaZe (No.5) and Renegades (No.15) on Mirage. After losing the pistol round, the Australian side hit back immediately off the back of a trio of kills by Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad, and rode that momentum to an 8-3 lead after keeping their opponents from stringing rounds together.

NiKo in great form in FaZe's close win over Renegades

FaZe then picked up the pace and found the equalizer three rounds into the second half. After getting their economy stabilized, Renegades once again built a strong lead, but FaZe were in control for the rest of the half and picked up the win in the 30th round after fending off a late comeback attempt by Aaron "AZR" Ward's side.

Compare FaZe's "lifetime" and that of FURIA... where are FaZe titles? Majors? Relevant victories? Compare it to an org that has the same "lifetime",LG/SK/"MIBR" if you will... Despite the terrible phase, there's no comparison in terms of titles (Majors ahem) and everything else. So just retreat to your insignificance, FaZe fan. Great team on paper, but a disaster in-game.

Faze is still not great. I am hopefull they've won that game. Renegades played great, Faze played bad. Thankfully they got it togheter in the second half but it was still sloppy. I mean, wtf are u doing NEO, putting the best player (after s1mple) entry fragger. The only flashes that i've seen working for faze were those thrown by niko, the others threw shit flashes. And another thing that bothered me is how they managed to lose the second round of the game.

Think you can’t clutch through a smoke while recording in full resolution and streaming the play to the world? Watch this. Think you can’t get famous in a flash like become your own meme famous? Watch this. Think he’s been there, done that? With Intel Core i7, he’s just getting started. Game, record, stream, without compromise, on Intel Core i7.

Indeed mate... Always failed to understand the hype about those 2 players that I honestly consider low tier, although I understand Renegades will to try our some new players. However, those 2 are not the ones. Clearly...

They can be god tier at times, but inconsistency is not good for a team that hopes to rise to the top ratings.
2019-07-02 14:50
Go check Liazz's stats page. This guy used to be ridiculously strong in ORDER, but RNG clearly made him change his playstyle and it has more than severely killed his performance strength. I'm not sure why he hasn't tried to ask for a role change because a god tier Liazz is honestly what RNG needs.

Stats tell me very little when I mostly watch nearly every single match... He is inconsistent and having a very good game within 10, is clearly not enough. Also stats includes every single shitty match on a very low tier region, in terms of CS. Basically you are right when you say "because a good tier is honestly what RNG needs" ..only the nickname is wrong, imho...
2019-07-02 15:26
Please see #51: You strawmanned my original point so hard I don't even know how to respond to this honestly; I wasn't arguing that he was a consistent tier god player in RNG. I was arguing that he was that in ORDER, which I would argue in their prime was pretty much the dream Aussie roster for me and many others. You yourself argued that you "watch every single match", which if that's the case, you'd realize the dramatic shift of his success in ORDER to RNG was staggeringly poor. Something is wrong here.

"watch every single match", I meant, top tournaments ofc. And your assessment is correct overall if I remember his role on ORDER correctly. So, on paper, he was a perfect fit for RNG... Reality shows that paper (to be read: stats) do not add up... Don't take me wrong as I have some simpathy towards him. However, he is not "the one"...

he played jks's role before so i cant see how liazz would be better at it than thei best player
2019-07-02 15:47
Clearly he's not playing his role correctly. His statistics agree with me, and that's undebatable. Go look at the date of when he joined RNG and where his graph literally plummets to an all time career low. It's so telegraphed that he's not comfortable in what he's playing compared to what he used to be playing. Nothing adds up here; I suggest they change how they play ASAP because watching RNG fail out every time is just sad at this point. I want jks and co. to win something for once so badly since they were under the Vox banner ffs, but they're just kicking themselves in the foot at this point. Edit: That analogy is also pretty poor honestly--lots of teams have swapped roles about players with the same exact scenario and have had great success with it. The point was in the end regardless of Liazz or not, they need something to change. I'd want them to change their playstyles around one last time before they go for a pickup though, because at the same time I smell one coming very soon.
