NRG beat FaZe to secure playoffs spot in Cologne
The last series of day one at ESL One Cologne began on Mirage, with FaZe getting off to an amazing start on the T side after Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer gave them the pistol round with a triple. Their 5-0 lead was quickly negated, however, as a double-AWP setup on Tarik "tarik" Celik and Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov turned the tide, setting off a massive streak for the North American side, who went on to clinch a 9-6 half, in the end.
With Nikola "NiKo" Kovač at the helm this time, FaZe secured another pistol round on the back of the Bosnian's three kills in B defense. NRG quickly replied in the following as Ethan "Ethan" Arnold put up a triple of his own, pushing his team to 13 rounds. Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz & co. didn't take long to reach map point, and although an improved defense saw FaZe close the gap to four, Ethan put the final nail in the coffin with a 1v3 clutch for 16-11.
The action moved on to Overpass, where the roles were reversed compared to Mirage, as NRG were the ones to run away with the first portion of the map with six in a row on the Terrorist side. FaZe tightened up the A defense with Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács picking up a couple of key multikills, which set up the European squad for a good half after all, as they only conceded one more en route to an 8-7.
stanislaw's men regained their lead with another pistol round win and kept controlling the proceedings despite losing the first gunround, with the Canadian in-game leader clutching a 1v1 on the way to a 13-9 lead. FaZe put up a decent effort to come back, but an eco victory on A and Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte's triple swung the map in favor of NRG, who then went on to claim a 16-12, 2-0 win and a spot in the playoffs.
