Liquid dismantle Natus Vincere; set to face Vitality for ESL One Cologne trophy

Liquid have successfully booked a spot in the grand final of ESL One Cologne 2019 following a successful 2-0 series against Natus Vincere with victories on Dust 2 (16-12) and Overpass (16-12).

The second semi-final of Cologne kicked off on Dust 2, where Natus Vincere defence took control of affairs immediately, securing the first pistol round. An anti-eco Scout triple kill for Aleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev followed, producing a two-round lead for the CIS mix squad. Liquid disallowed any further momentum to be developed by their adversaries, as with rifles in hand a seven-round lead was accrued, coupled with a flourishing bank.

Danylo "Zeus" Teslenko and his men managed to convert two post-plant situations following a string of consecutive losses, subsequently finding themselves in trouble after yet another upset in momentum. Against the odds, Egor "flamie" Vasilyev secured a Deagle triple kill while holding B tunnels in round 13, which yielded his team much-needed confidence to soften the first half deficit to 6-9.

Twistzz dominated on Dust2, concluding the map with a 1.71 rating

The second pistol round witnessed an outstanding individual showing from Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov, who was able to dispatch three Liquid members in a 1v3 post-plant clutch. This allowed Natus Vincere a score equaliser prior to a full buy for the CTs. Consistent with the prior half, once equipment was in check Liquid were able to once more assume the lead.

Natus Vincere upset the CT momentum with a fruitful round, but a blunder sustained during an A hit saw an advantage squandered. A brawl ensued, as the teams exchanged a round each, leading to brittle economies on both sides. Liquid emerged on top, thanks to a force buy round conversion that saw a Deagle triple kill from Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken. The aqueous quintet secured map point off the back of this performance, and Natus Vincere were subsequently unable to force overtime, conceding their map pick with a 12-16 score.

Overpass was next on the agenda, where Liquid's offense kicked off to a successful B site hit, securing a bomb plant and the first round of the map. A triple and double kill for Denis "electronic" Sharipov and Boombl4, respectively, in an ensuing pistol force buy allowed Natus Vincere to snatch the momentum, resulting in a further two rounds. Liquid posted their second digit afterward, but lacked follow-up, creating room for a 5-2 lead on part of their adversaries.

Round eight was pivotal for Liquid, as the North American squad had finally found consistency, producing three successful bomb plants, and a score equaliser as a result. Boombl4 prevented a lead from being developed, as he came through for his team in a pistol buy, landing a triple kill, and once more placed the ball in Natus Vincere's court. The CIS squad went on to close out the majority of the remaining rounds, producing a 9-6 CT half.

Boombl4 put up a fight on Overpass, amassing a respectable 28 kills

In what had become a recurrence, Boombl4 once more accounted for the furthering of his squad's position, as double a kill opening on the A site secured his team the second pistol round of Overpass. Natus Vincere closed the following two engagements despite a force buy for Liquid, extending the round disparity further.

Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski single-handedly ensured his team's resurgence in the midde portion of the latter half, as a M4A4 triple kill inspired his team to perform. After securing six consecutive rounds, Liquid leveled the scoreline at 12-12, witnessing another multi-kill in the process, this time courtesy of Twistzz. Despite working with a maximum loss bonus, Natus Vincere persistently struggled against the North American defence, subsequently conceding series point after four members fell to Nick "nitr0" Cannella's AWP on the A site. Liquid went on to close out 16-12 shortly after, securing their grand final pairing against Vitality with a 2-0 series score.

I dont think so, at least not yet
2019-07-06 22:46
Why not? They’ve won the past 3 events and are very close to winning a 4th events. I feel like you’re just in denial because mibr and furia aren’t doing very well so you have to take it out on liquid and their fans.
2019-07-07 08:55
IMO era must include 2 major wins with some other big tournaments in between
2019-07-07 10:09
Depends on what you define an era as. Imo lg/sk didn’t have an era but some others may think they did.
2019-07-07 10:11
So NiP 87-0 wasn't an era? Just to clarify...
2019-07-07 10:51
Why even ask that
2019-07-07 12:30
Because most people consider that to have been an era, but you're saying that it required 2 Major wins in your opinion. I'm just interested to hear what you think about it
2019-07-07 12:37
Of course it was an era, just because the tournaments they won weren't considered 'Majors' by valve standards is not their fault. They won everything they possibly could for a couple years...
2019-07-07 13:07
So if you're counting tournaments that Valve doesn't consider Majors for the case of NiP, why not for Liquid? They've won 3 consecutive large international Grand Slam tournaments (Sydney, Dallas and EPL Finals with almost all of the world's top teams in attendance) , they've only failed to make the Finals once all year (the Major, following ENCE's breakout performance and in a series that could have gone very differently if it wasn't for the comeback). They could be the second team ever to win a Grand Slam, and the first to do it with 4 CONSECUTIVE WINS. I agree personally that it's not quite an era yet, but I think it's unfair to demand they win Majors for it to count.
2019-07-07 13:14
Major's didn't exist during NiP's time. Now they do, so therefore they are the most important tournaments with 10x the viewership of any other tournaments throughout the year.
2019-07-07 22:34
Fair enough, I wasn't aware of that, thank you for correcting me. However, though, some pros would weight tournaments like Cologne higher than Majors such as London - I would say that Majors aren't necessary to build an era, but I will admit that they are the shining touch to any resumé for a contender for "best of all time" sort of rankings. In short, while Majors are important and all, they aren't a necessary factor in making an era - with Liquid encroaching on Fnatic's famed "we won 5 out of 6 consecutive big tournaments" or whatever it was (if you include IBUYPOWER Masters, then they have equalled this), I think it is fair to say that they are very near, if not already at era-status

You realize that you just contradicted yourself, right?
2019-07-07 18:17
Not really, though I understand why you would think that. I'm just simply saying that Major's did not exist during NiP's run, so it is unfair to classify their streak as not being an era. Now that Major's exist and draw way more viewership that any other tournament, they are necessary to clutch for an era IMO.
2019-07-07 22:36

Yes and no. They can be better than all other teams, but by how much also matters. Cause liquid has had somewhat close finals with what they've won, and it's not like astralis' era where they were garunteed to win. If they win this and the major, post March to the end of the year would be TL's era, but it would be an era era if they started to dominate.
2019-07-06 22:56
All I see is a load of bullshit in this comment.
2019-07-06 23:22
I say they win this and place highly at the Major and IEM Chicago, they have themselves an era.

2019-07-07 03:36
era must include major win imo
2019-07-07 10:10
NIP won their major after their era was over, and SK had their era after their two major wins. An era is just a team showing extreme dominance over a decent period of time, having no clear competition and winning most of the tournaments they participate in. Major wins only help cement an era, but it does not define one.
2019-07-07 18:29
I agree dominance is the most important factor, but there have been quite a few teams over the years who were very dominant but never took the major. IMO the major is the most important because of the sheer viewership and pressure it puts on the players. No other tournaments throughout the year even have 1/3rd of the viewers.

nobody's talking about S0mple when he's playing like whatever, people only mention him when his K-D is high. Zywoo meanwhile consistent rating against any top team. S0mple is eco destroyer, exit fragger and trader.
2019-07-06 22:46
Boombl4 is the new hope, he actually played really good, considering he came from a lower tier team to Navi, and still top fragging vs #1 Liquid. And yea, ZywOo is doing great in any Situation, playing very smart and he also has a strong team around him. Vitality may have a chance tomorrow

If u were a true fan, u would not disrespect him just coz he had one bad day, even when electronic and flamie played worse than him (which is overlooked just coz expectations from simple are always very high). What about those countless number of times he carried navi? One bad bo3 and u say rip era?? Rip ur thinking lmao. Simple still has the 3rd best rating in this tournament i.e. 1.27 far above average and any of his teammates. So stop shitting on him
2019-07-07 01:18
noo man im not one of these plastic fans and im a real navi fan, its not just this bo3 its the whole tournament from him was not good, dat mistakes like today again with his greedy peek (with bomb) on short d2.. man this is not the real s1mple and ofc he has great ratings because this team is working and baiting for him but thats okey u should do it if u have a star player like him but idk man if u make statements u must deliver.. i was so sure he gonna show them all

I enjoyed watching this game, but I really have to hand it to Boombl4, he definitely fits in NaVi and is performing well. Of course, even back when Winstrike was QB Fire he was performing amazingly, but the point is he's a good fit for NaVi and doesn't look like he's being restrained by the team. A lot of teams are finding the right fit this year. Liquid has gotten there, NaVi's well on their way, and I feel like Mouz has a strong line-up too that'll really turn some heads as they adjust more and more.

In actually, even if Navi win TL at the group stage, they still will be lost at semi-finally as this TL is similar to the last year-Astrails, they won't able to lose the sample map twice as well as D2 and overpass is there best map.
