G2, Tricked top Good Game League groups
The opening day of the Good Game League, a $110,000+ tournament featuring eight European teams, began with some keenly-contested best-of-one encounters, two of which went to overtime.
Virtus.pro and Aristocracy, the two local sides in attendance, were both sent to the lower bracket after suffering close losses to Epsilon and Tricked, respectively. HellRaisers and GamerLegion, two teams inside the top 30 and separated by just one place in the rankings, played out a fiercely contested encounter, with the Swedish side running out 22-20 victors on Dennis "dennis" Edman's debut for the team.
G2, the only top 10 team in attendance in Poznan, validated their status as favourites and moved past Winstrike and Epsilon by 16-12 scorelines with strong individual displays from Audric "JaCkz" Jug and Richard "shox" Papillon.
Meanwhile, Tricked and GamerLegion faced off in the other group's upper bracket final in a rematch of the recent GGL Kielce qualifier final, which the Swedish team had won 2-0 with Denis "grux" Gutaj acting as a stand-in. This time around, Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen's charges came out on top in a match that went the full distance following a great all-round team performance to assure themselves of a playoff berth.
