MIBR to IEM Chicago semi-finals over G2

MIBR have secured a semi-final spot at IEM Chicago following a 2-1 victory over G2 in the Group A decider match (16-11 Inferno, 12-16 Dust2, 16-6 Train).

The Group A decider match in Chicago kicked off with Richard "shox" Papillon helping his side battle back in a 2vs4 to take the opening pistol round of Inferno. A force-buy in the ensuing round allowed for MIBR to answer back with three rounds before G2 took two for themselves thanks to a 3k by François "AmaNEk" Delaunay, but another pistol buy from the Brazilian side allowed for them to further extend their lead to 7-3.

An ace attempt by Lucas "LUCAS1" Teles was cut short by Kenny "kennyS" Schrub, who clutched out a 1vs1 against MIBR's newest addition to grant G2 their fourth round. Audric "JaCkz" Jug secured a quad-kill to help the Frenchmen continue to close the round deficit, with kennyS pulling back a 1vs2 to put his side within one round of MIBR before the final two rounds of the half went the way of the Brazilians for a 9-6 scoreline.

LUCAS1 powered MIBR to a 2-1 series victory

The second half initially saw far less contention between the two rosters, with MIBR converting a pistol victory into a four round streak that was helped in part by a three-man spraydown from LUCAS1. G2's first round on the offense came from a triple kill by shox on a force-buy, allowing for his side to garner five additional rounds as JaCkz and kennyS also stepped up to bat. Three kills from Fernando "fer" Alvarenga on a pistol buy got MIBR back on the board, shutting down G2's aggression on banana to push his team to a 16-11 finish on map one.

Having lost the first map of the series, G2 looked to answer back as their pick of Dust2 was next up. Unfortunately for the French, it was MIBR who took immediate control as triple kill rounds by Wilton "zews" Prado, Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, LUCAS1, and fer helped the Brazilian roster to a 5-0 start. A B site hit led to G2 grabbing their first round, with AmaNEk contributing a 3k in the ensuing round to break the Brazilians' budget, close the round discrepancy, and take the lead by a single round. MIBR managed to add another two to their tally once they returned to rifles, but G2 made up for their slow start as they took the final two rounds of the half to edge out an 8-7 lead.

The match was swiftly tied up as MIBR won their third pistol round of the series, converting the victory into a four round spree. Rounds were traded back and forth as the two teams fought for control, with JaCkz securing two quad kills to swing momentum into G2's favour and allow the Frenchmen to take seven straight rounds and their own map pick 16-12.

A number of multi-frag rounds by JaCkz were not enough for G2 to prevail in the series

G2 seemed set to maintain their momentum as a pistol round victory on Train allowed them to take control, but a 2vs5 recovery in an ensuing force-buy saw FalleN secure three Deagle kills before converting a fourth frag with a Famas to give MIBR the edge for a 3-1 lead. Yet another 3k for JaCkz gave his side their second round, but again an immediate answer back from MIBR gave the Brazilians control of the economy and the pace of the match on the offense. Just two additional rounds went G2's way in the half, with FalleN and company mustering ten rounds on the offense as the teams swapped sides.

MIBR's fourth pistol round win all but sealed the deal for the Brazilian squad as they cruised up to a 13-5 lead. A 1vs4 clutch attempt by shox fell short by one kill as FalleN prevailed with a smoke defuse, with JaCkz, as was the story with this series, grabbing one more triple kill round before MIBR closed out the map 16-6.

Mindsets are different, g2 was like "this one is easy, we beated them yesterday" Mibr was like "this is our first tournament without cold, we need to do good" like a focus mindset unitying the team. Lucas is new on the roster and wants to shine on the time, Fallen is a monster when he's focused... Fer and Taco are always there to keep the balance on the team, making one man plays that destroys the other team. And Zews was just enjoying the ride, helping the team with the dirty work.

That's what I got from this game... CS and esports/sports isn't just about the skill you have, the mentality changes how things go in the game. How much do you want to win, how much do you want give to the game from yourself... Astralis understood that. They were the first team to hire a psychologist to help the players be better prepared mentally. That's why they had that long era, not just because of their skill (unquestionably) but because they were stronger mentally in the duels, in the stress resistance through out the game. Liquid hired a psychologist and we're seeing the results...
2019-07-21 03:29
Zews > Coldzera kkkk The team is playing much better without him!!! Toxic player left the game...

How many shame he could take cause of that team? Atmosphere also was bad probably so he choose to change something he could do it 1 year ago but he gave a chance to MIBR but it didn't work he offered to help them at major but they refused and now mad m16r fans crying cause ",2 face cold" wtf mens)))
2019-07-20 01:56
i think cold may come to be another NiKo: an amazing player that wins nothing
2019-07-20 02:44
Whatever he won everything he could, 2x majorr winner, 2x major mvp, 8 mvp in whole career, 2x top 1 for example s1mple had amazing year and still not a major champion.

2019-07-20 12:41
Truly MAD. SAD!
2019-07-21 01:19
ok, but the point is that we support teams, not players... it is very nice when we have someone on top 5, like we had cold n1 and fallen n2, but if they don't get titles, it is good just for the player, not for the team or their countries scene
2019-07-20 14:50
Niko is not a baiter...
2019-07-21 04:10
that's not the point, never said that
2019-07-21 04:13
All them was passing though rogue time, thats normal! Its was not about Cold, but fallen and Fer as well! Cold need to undertand that nowadays games require get info and play for the team, passive game baiting someone else is outdate, players need to make other functions sometimes and looks like Cold played looking for the HLTV rating...

Shame for G2. Losing to MIBR playing with stand-in coach, who performed better than some of G2 players. MIBR on the rise again, the world will see.
2019-07-20 01:57
I feel bad for G2... 16 6 on the last map, that is not normal
2019-07-20 02:04
They really can't play in train. I remember Shox and Amanex combined less than 10 kills against mousesport or something.

i actually feel bad for G2, The two teams i watched when i first got into counterstrike was the old c9 with n0thing and shroud and Envy with kennyS, so in a way i view G2 as my second favorite team behind liquid...

g2 played like dogshit today lmao it was hard to watch. just compare their performance and strats on first day to today, holy shit what a huge difference. they went from insanely good and in control to just complete garbage. this has got to be completely mindset and psychological, no idea if they can fix this
