MIBR to IEM Chicago semi-finals over G2
The Group A decider match in Chicago kicked off with Richard "shox" Papillon helping his side battle back in a 2vs4 to take the opening pistol round of Inferno. A force-buy in the ensuing round allowed for MIBR to answer back with three rounds before G2 took two for themselves thanks to a 3k by François "AmaNEk" Delaunay, but another pistol buy from the Brazilian side allowed for them to further extend their lead to 7-3.
An ace attempt by Lucas "LUCAS1" Teles was cut short by Kenny "kennyS" Schrub, who clutched out a 1vs1 against MIBR's newest addition to grant G2 their fourth round. Audric "JaCkz" Jug secured a quad-kill to help the Frenchmen continue to close the round deficit, with kennyS pulling back a 1vs2 to put his side within one round of MIBR before the final two rounds of the half went the way of the Brazilians for a 9-6 scoreline.
The second half initially saw far less contention between the two rosters, with MIBR converting a pistol victory into a four round streak that was helped in part by a three-man spraydown from LUCAS1. G2's first round on the offense came from a triple kill by shox on a force-buy, allowing for his side to garner five additional rounds as JaCkz and kennyS also stepped up to bat. Three kills from Fernando "fer" Alvarenga on a pistol buy got MIBR back on the board, shutting down G2's aggression on banana to push his team to a 16-11 finish on map one.
Having lost the first map of the series, G2 looked to answer back as their pick of Dust2 was next up. Unfortunately for the French, it was MIBR who took immediate control as triple kill rounds by Wilton "zews" Prado, Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, LUCAS1, and fer helped the Brazilian roster to a 5-0 start. A B site hit led to G2 grabbing their first round, with AmaNEk contributing a 3k in the ensuing round to break the Brazilians' budget, close the round discrepancy, and take the lead by a single round. MIBR managed to add another two to their tally once they returned to rifles, but G2 made up for their slow start as they took the final two rounds of the half to edge out an 8-7 lead.
The match was swiftly tied up as MIBR won their third pistol round of the series, converting the victory into a four round spree. Rounds were traded back and forth as the two teams fought for control, with JaCkz securing two quad kills to swing momentum into G2's favour and allow the Frenchmen to take seven straight rounds and their own map pick 16-12.
G2 seemed set to maintain their momentum as a pistol round victory on Train allowed them to take control, but a 2vs5 recovery in an ensuing force-buy saw FalleN secure three Deagle kills before converting a fourth frag with a Famas to give MIBR the edge for a 3-1 lead. Yet another 3k for JaCkz gave his side their second round, but again an immediate answer back from MIBR gave the Brazilians control of the economy and the pace of the match on the offense. Just two additional rounds went G2's way in the half, with FalleN and company mustering ten rounds on the offense as the teams swapped sides.
MIBR's fourth pistol round win all but sealed the deal for the Brazilian squad as they cruised up to a 13-5 lead. A 1vs4 clutch attempt by shox fell short by one kill as FalleN prevailed with a smoke defuse, with JaCkz, as was the story with this series, grabbing one more triple kill round before MIBR closed out the map 16-6.
