frozen: "It was always my dream to play the Major and have my own stickers"
In an interview with David "frozen" Čerňanský following mousesports's victory over North, we heard the youngster's impressions of surviving the Minor group stage and advancing to the Main Qualifier for the Major.
Following the game against North, which secured mousesports a place at the Main Qualifier of the StarLadder Major, we spoke to frozen about the rough early games, making it through, and the team's potential.
I'll start with the group stage games, the two BO3s you had against Sprout and NoChance. Tell me about your perception of how it went because obviously there was a lot of pressure on mousesports to make it through, but on the other hand it is your first time in those situations.
Of course, there has been a lot of pressure because imagine mousesports losing to those teams, they are not top tier 1 teams, I would say. I think we shouldn't lose to these teams and we were four rounds away from getting eliminated. But of course, they played really well, they surprised us and credit to them, they played super-well. Also, NoChance is an upcoming team, I think they are going to do really well in the future. Yeah, what can I say, it was 12-3, four rounds away from elimination but I think woxic kept our mood up and we kept believing we can still win it. We did a 13-0 comeback and as you see, in the playoffs we are a completely different team. I'm just super-happy we qualified and it is over.
Was it hard for you in those moments, playing the game while facing elimination?
To be honest, even though we were losing 12-3, I was pretty sure we were going to win that. I was hoping we were going to win the pistol and then I knew we were going to win the match. So yeah, I was kinda okay, but of course, it was 12-3, you are thinking like: "Ok, I guess I need to buy a ticket home soon". [laughs]
Today you have been pretty much unleashed, especially in the first map against North. Can you tell me about the match today which was the deciding one to go into the Major?
Yeah, I mean, I think I got up on the right leg. Everything went the right way from me, it was one of those days, you are hitting every shot and I'm just super happy it was this day, to qualify for the Major.
How does it feel to get into the next stage, you are going to have stickers in the game, it is a big achievement?
Yeah, it was always my dream to play the Major and have my own stickers in the game so it feels super-great. I'm just happy for the boys, we made it!
As a team, how much do you think you still have to progress? How much do you still have to work to reach your full potential?
We still have a lot of work in front of us. We are just going to keep grinding. I don't know how much, we just need to play a lot. Maybe half a year, maybe a year, and we are going to reach our top peak. But yeah, we just need to keep grinding and working hard.
What is the thing that is the worst for you guys at the moment?
Worst? I would say... BO1s! [laughs] BO1s and the first matches of the tournament. I think we need to work on these matches because it feels like we are always off in the first games. So we need to work on that.
Touching on your coach, in one interview karrigan said something along the lines of him being pretty underrated. What is his role in today's matches, can you give me an example of what he brings to the team?
Rejin is preparing for the enemy, he is doing everything he can. When we go into the match, we know exactly what the enemy is going to do, there is nothing that can surprise us. I think he is doing a really great job so far and I'm just happy we have him.
