Vitality hammer mousesports to reach Major playoffs
The French highfliers shook off their defeat to ENCE with another blowout of a top 10 side, taking the team count for the playoffs to four and giving Cédric "RpK" Guipouy his first-ever Legend status after nine previous failed attempts. For the most part, it seemed like a match between teams from different levels as Vitality dictated the pace at all times and looked composed and balanced against a mousesports side that never looked like they could pose a real threat to the Frenchmen.
mousesports drop down to the 2-2 pool in Berlin, and while they remain very much in contention for a playoff berth, they will require a much-improved performance to get out of the New Legends Stage, knowing that the final Swiss round could throw a clash against Liquid their way.
"If someone wants to get better on Vertigo, they should definitely watch mousesports." It seems that kennyS' words resonated with his compatriots from Vitality, who delivered a masterclass of a performance on mousesports' map pick. With his Vertigo praised by analysts and opponents alike, Finn "karrigan" Andersen certainly found it strange that the map was left wide open in the veto, but they would soon understand why.
A dominant start to the game with a flawless pistol round rapidly turned into a nightmare for mousesports, who conceded ten consecutive rounds, nine of which without even planting the bomb, as Vitality were in control of the map and kept winning all aim duels. A trio of kills by Chris "chrisJ" de Jong then helped mouz to end that streak, but the French side were unfazed and kept their defense very compact for a 12-3 half.
The Dutch veteran kept mousesports in the game with another hat-trick of kills in the second half pistol, but his efforts would be in vain. Vitality rallied back immediately on a force buy and ran away with the game, locking down the map at 16-5 with a 1v2 clutch by Dan "apEX" Madesclaire.
Mirage began with mousesports taking the pistol round, earning a much-needed respite after the slaughter on Vertigo. However, they were immediately dealt a huge blow as Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut wreaked havoc with an SG to turn the tide in Vitality's favour. The Frenchmen ran all over the mouz defense for the remainder of the half, taking 12 rounds into the break.
With their hopes hanging by a thread, mousesports dug deep in search of a miracle and put Vitality against the ropes for a short period. The French side kept their composure, though, and eventually hit series point with two convincing gun rounds before wrapping things up in what was essentially an eco round to rub further salt into their opponents' wounds.
