Astralis outclass NRG to meet AVANGAR in Major grand final
A 1vs3 clutch by Nicolai "device" Reedtz opened things up for Astralis on Train, putting the Danes in control of the proceedings as further multi-kills from Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth and Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander allowed for a flawless streak of eight rounds on the defense. A triple kill by Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov was what finally cracked through Astralis' hold, but Xyp9x answered back in kind in the ensuing round to grant Astralis their ninth. Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte helped his team to fight back into the half, helping to secure four of the remaining five rounds in the half to reduce the deficit to 10-5 at halftime as Astralis moved over to the offense.
Three USP-S kills by Brehze at the start of the second half allowed NRG the opportunity to push up to a 10-7 scoreline, although the team fell to a Deagle buy from Astralis as the Danes remained dangerous. Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and company replied with two additional rounds as they continued to close the gap to 11-9, but Astralis remained in full control as they only conceded one final round on the road to a 16-10 finish.
device secured himself another triple kill as Overpass got underway, creating an opening for Astralis to push up to a 3-0 lead to start. Multi-kill rounds by Brehze aided NRG in their effort to equalize the scoreline once they had rifles in their hands, but Astralis continued to batter the North American defense to keep NRG at bay. A seven-round streak from Astralis was finally put to a halt as Tarik "tarik" Celik secured himself a trio of frags to grant NRG their fourth, with the team managing to add a final round to their tally for another 10-5 halftime scoreline.
A pistol round victory in the second half put momentum in NRG's favour as they looked to repeat their efforts from Train to reduce the deficit, but a force-buy in the ensuing round by Astralis saw the Danish side immediately answer back and seize control from their opposition. Three kills from device countered NRG's own force-buy in the following round, while Emil "Magisk" Reif secured an anti-eco ace of his own as Astralis moved up to a 14-6 lead. A pair of triple kills by Brehze gave NRG their final chance to pursue a comeback, but Astralis were not to be denied as two final rounds went their way to close out the series with a 16-9 victory.
