Astralis hammer AVANGAR to win StarLadder Major

Astralis picked up their fourth Major title after easing past AVANGAR 2-0 in the grand final of the StarLadder Major.

The Danish giants needed little over two hours to defeat the Kazakhstani side and get their hands on their fourth Major crown, ending a title drought that stretched back to BLAST Pro Series São Paulo. It was a performance reminiscent of the IEM Katowice Major final as Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander's troops were one step ahead of their opponents at all times and barely had to sweat or make crazy individual plays to come out on top. One hundred and sixty-nine days later,Astralis taste victory again and remind everyone of just how high their ceiling can be after completing a dominant playoff run with another 2-0 victory.

As the series came to an end, Astralis' players made it clear that this is just the beginning and that they are looking to claim the scalp of Liquid, who have been the dominant team of the year.

"We want to keep winning, we are doing everything we can to stay at the top," gla1ve said after the match. "We will climb our way back, we will take that No.1 spot again and it will happen soon."

Heading into the series, AVANGAR knew they had a mountain to climb, but an argument could be made that the map veto increased their chances, even if just slightly. Inferno and Dust2 were both maps where the CIS side had enjoyed success in Berlin, so the idea of the series going all the way was not that far-fetched - and we all knew how lethal they could be on Overpass. But they were simply no match for a red-hot Astralis team was led by birthday boy Nicolai "device" Reedtz, who delivered another fantastic individual display.

A flying start from Astralis saw them take control of proceedings from the outset on Inferno. The Danes, who began on the offensive side, controlled the space in the map and exploited some holes in AVANGAR's defense as the CIS side struggled to apply any pressure on the red-hot Terrorists.

Astralis are the StarLadder Major champions

Veteran Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev came to AVANGAR's rescue when his team were down 0-8 with a quad-kill, leaving Astralis with no money for utility in the following round - which would prove to be key as they could not fend off the rotating CTs while trying to take control of the B site. The Danes were unfazed, though, and hit back immediately with nothing but Desert Eagles after catching Dzhami "Jame" Ali off-guard in a fast mid push. The Russian AWPer struggled to get any impact on the CT side, ending the half with just one kill as his team fell behind 12-3 in the game.

After the break it was finally Jame time. The Russian picked up three kills as AVANGAR executed B to halt Astralis' momentum, at least for a little while. That gave the CIS some much-needed breathing room, but once the Danes had money to work with they were back to the same level they had displayed in the first half as they chained four rounds together en-route to a dominant 16-6 victory.

device opened up Dust2 with a quad-kill in the pistol round to put Astralis in the driver's seat. The Danish team rode that momentum to a 7-1 lead and held off a late comeback attempt from AVANGAR to end the half up by seven rounds despite making a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes throughout the half.

Sanjar "SANJI" Kuliev still gave AVANGAR's fans some hopes with a timely flank in the second pistol round. However, those hopes would soon be crushed: Astralis rallied back on a force buy and did not take their foot off the pedal, winning the next four rounds in convincing fashion to wrap things up.

We didn't see the kills but nonetheless the 4th major is here dear silvers and gold novas around the world (I'm globel). "Humans Greatest feats - The Book" - a thick book written by Thorin the historian has numerous blank pages of successful predictions and only one filled page wit the word: Astralis* Little did we known that Blast were trying to implode this team from within and save humanity from utter domination. They foresaw it but humans were numb due to loud delusionals screams of NA TOP #1 🤡 - Gla1ve 180IQ (90IQ for each eye) - dev1ce very fast flicks AWP and tops every R8 thread - Xyp9x by ego, likes to flex his muscles when everyone is looking at his 1 on 1 situations or harder sets - Magisk feeling passive-agressive of Device face, upgraded his and now lives with the sole porpuse of smashing ugly people: every CSGO pro - dupreeh the PRE at his name stands for pre-fire as there's not a single angle unbeknownst to him - zonic screams loud, enemies afred Volvo currently renaming their game to Counter-Astralis a Global-Offensive 🤖 * but s1mple best :>

Device is proof to me that God doesn't exist. How can someone be so good with everything? Pistols, fucking your favorite team, rifles, punching monitors, awping etc. Its just not fair, how can anyone believe in God when Device exists? To top if off he looks like Tom Cruise, is rich as fuck and could have been a badminton pro if he wanted. But he just had to go into csgo, dick on everyone and ruin everyones faith in God. Thank you device.

I'm not against Liquid but I don't think this comes close to a major (Astralis also has its IGS). After Katowice it just seems like Astralis decided to retreat a bit, coming full force again for Berlin, whereas Liquid wasn't in its top form. IMHO, to talk about eras, talk about majors and other titles around that period.

With Astralis only attending 2 of the 4 events they won. At ESL pro league season 9 they beat Astralis 2-1 by a very close margin 16-13 on the decider and more or less only because ELIGE went crazy, not because they were a better team. At ESL one Cologne 2019, Vitality beat Astralis partly because Dev1ce went missing and psrtly because the teamplay were not as it usually is for Astralis. Well done by Liquid winning the grand slam and in such a short amount of time, but they did not have to fight as hard to get it as Astralis had to. And imo a team should win at least one major to have an era.

Astralis LEGENDS
2019-09-08 20:36
Astralis looked like themselves in the last 2 matches, there wasn't a team here who really had a chance. Easily the best team to have touched this game, no one really comes close in terms of the really important event wins. Really boring ending to the major, even the ENCE final was more interesting (or, hell, Gambit vs. Immortals). I don't think anyone expected AVANGAR to put up a big fight, but that was pretty disappointing, the difference in quality was obvious. There needs to be serious adjustment to the majors from a viewer perspective: Bo3's need to be instituted across the board, even if it means extending the tournament. It would help to eliminate the lopsided playoffs we had here (it may not totally remove it, but look at the consistency of nearly every tournament other than the Majors). A double-elim playoffs would be pretty fucking cool, but I guess no one will ever listen to that. Better prize money, it's time that Valve increased the pot to make Majors feel more important again. I think they players have a more insightful view on this, but I wonder if majors shouldn't be the last tournament of a season, rather than the first one immediately after the break.

It's not starladder's fault that all the top teams performed so poor and got matched up like this. The seeding system is pretty good.
2019-09-08 20:48
Seeding isn't the issue, I think that's valid. It's the Bo1's which lead to these weird situations. You have good Bo3 teams lose out in Bo1's, and then get paired against each other in deciders (seeding be damned) and you end up seeing a lot of the good teams fall out. Because of how this works, it reshuffles the Playoffs and causes lopsided brackets. Like some of the teams who go 2 - 0 make things really unbalanced, because they go 2 - 3 once Bo3's come around, which really hurts the results. Like I said, you almost never see these kinds of bracket problems at other events, because Bo1 matches don't determine so many variables.

Valve doesn't give a flying fuck about CS, sadly. If it they did, they would've made a CS version of The International. Or at the least, make the majors the same format as the TI (round robin group stage, double elim main stage). I get it, DotA is their love child, but how fucking hard can it be...
2019-09-08 21:05
Oh, believe me, I know. They've always sort of treated CS like it was there by obligation, not because they cared (this includes 1.6 and Source). They make STUPID money off the game, because of skins, but they won't put the effort into giving it back.

The average level sucks. How the hell AVANGAR got to the final ? Is this a major ?
2019-09-08 20:36
ofc it sucks when it has robotical aim & movement. Game is shit, no hierarchy at all, last update on 2016 year they made average game.Look just products like flusha jw olofm xizt are shit nowadays. Some low-skilled cunts are destroying them with 50% effort. Valve offered 1m when update came out, they know what are doing, no easy money. U r old member here as far as i know, just compare teams like attax, mouz, PwR, Frag eXecutors, Mibr, TeG, k23, fnatic, SK from cs 1.6 era with those : Avangard nrg vitality g2 liquid windigo spaces and u gonna get answer how much quality csgo is.

hahaha yep :D No f* way they were able to pass the 1/8 of finals. The raw skill played big time in cs back then, now, everyone can jump shot and HS you without any technic or anything. But someone created a video talking about the modern way to create a game that erase the skill gap between a pro and a new gamer. quite interesting. youtube.com/watch?v=iSgA_nK_w3A

2019-09-08 20:41
Congratz to them, first line-up to win three majors in a row, and first line-up to win three majors at all. Would have been much better for them if they had maintained their form throughout the year though. It's a shame for Liquid who had an opportunity to establish their era for good, now it's going to be tough moving forward, especially if they start losing to Astralis again. We'll see.
2019-09-08 20:38
4 majors even*
2019-09-08 20:40
he said lineup, not team, same 5 players won 3 majors
2019-09-08 20:42
Their 4th wasn't with the same line-up. But they're also the first organization to win 4 majors sure, I personally don't care as much about org achievements as I care about team achievements.
2019-09-08 20:43
its one thing if it was with completely different rosters but we're talking about changing 1 player lol 4/5 with 4 majors 1/5 with 3
2019-09-09 01:21
It doesn't matter if it's one player or a completely different roster, it's still a different line-up. Once you decide that you want to track achievements based on line-up (which is what I do), you can't just arbitrarily decide to give a pass to a team just because it's only one player. Or if you do, then you would have to grant the same pass to any team who achieves something with the same 4-man core but changed their last man, for example it would mean that you would consider that it's the same NiP from 2012 up until Friberg left. If you don't grant that to other teams, you're being inconsistent in your criteria used to track achievements, which undermines your method. Personally, I'm not going to bother tracking full line-ups AND 4-man cores, what I care about is full-lineups. If you decide to track both, feel free to do so, but be careful to keep those separate, that is, not to try to compare achievements between 4-man cores and full line-ups.
2019-09-09 01:37
True, my fault. Kjaerbot was lucky to be given that first major.
2019-09-08 20:55
It's Liquid's fault, and Astralis played amazingly. Liquid lost momentum due to the break, but they looked absolutely atrocious compared to the last 2 tournaments they'd been at (or even, hell, the previous major). I do feel bad for Liquid, they had the chance to really put their mark on the game here and they dropped the ball. NRG is the same way, they had a chance to pass the semi's at a big event (even win it), and they fell apart (historically picking the same map you won against someone never goes well, you'd think pros would realize this by now). It's also hard to see Avangar get dominated so convincingly, it makes you wonder how they'd have done against a few of the other teams in the other bracket. It's got to be a bitter sweet feeling for them, they made the finals but it's going to sink in that they may not have deserved to be there, considering how bad that match went.

People who complain about Astralis' dominance are just shortsighted. The whole point of competitive cs is to put together a team with the teamwork and individual skill to consistently win at a high level. You're complaining about them just doing their job well. You can't have exciting upsets without dominant teams.

LOL Everyone knows that Astralis won the Major in Quarter-Finals. Semi and Final, was just Astralis showing kids, cs of adults. Astralis, Team Liquid are way stronger than opposition right now, Na'Vi and NRG are changing structure to be better like them (orgs) too, and other teams need to know that 2 weeks bootcamp is old mindset, don't work anymore. G2 is good in LOL, probably good too in cs structure, i think here is just players environment. So, time changed, and the ones that can't adapt, will be ever others. The champs are the ones that follow and aprecciate the changes. GGWP Best Team of All Time, Astralis. Congrats Champs.

these final was very sad and painful to watch. please reduce the number of majors per year if necessary, but please change the group stage format, these newbie teams are getting to semifinals and finals way too often.

.. and kudoz astralis, they are the greatest, no question, but they need a solid opponent for these matches to be fun to watch.

in crowd: 10 kazakstan fans vs 10000 danish fans. unfair. worst major ever

I think hammer is an understatement. It was so painful watching Avangar play. These 2 teams are in totally different level. Real final match was Australis vs Liquid. Avangar VS Australis was more like an entertainment show, a dessert after the main course.
