Astralis make Major history with Berlin triumph

Astralis became the most successful team in the history of Counter-Strike Majors on Sunday by winning their fourth title in Berlin against AVANGAR.

The Danish giants beat AVANGAR in a quick two-map series at a packed Mercedes-Benz Arena to add a fourth Major crown to their glittering collection - after previously winning ELEAGUE Major Atlanta (with Markus "⁠Kjaerbye⁠" Kjærbye still on the roster), the FACEIT Major and IEM Katowice 2019 - and surpass fnatic’s record.

Astralis also became the first team to win three consecutive Major titles, dethroning fnatic's 2015 squad and the 2016 Brazilian roster of Luminosity/SK.

Sunday's success sees Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz, Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen, Lukas "⁠gla1ve⁠" Rossander and Andreas "⁠Xyp9x⁠" Højsleth become the most successful players in Majors with four trophies, while Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif joins Robin "⁠flusha⁠" Rönnquist, Jesper "⁠JW⁠" Wecksell and Markus "⁠pronax⁠" Wallsten on the list of players to have claimed three such titles.

device also became only the second player in the history of the competition to have scooped more than one MVP medal, joining Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David in this elite club.

just saying, i dont think ive ever seen an NA Fan say EU CS is dead. EU CS will never die. And for the record, I am proud of Astralis, and am happy for them to win a 4th major. I doubt that any Liquid fans are salty that Astralis beat Liquid, because Astralis fully deserved the win. Now, I am just hoping that the player break will never be right before the major again.

Tbh i think it's great the player break is before the major, otherwise it'll just be the team best in form winning it and will be much more obvious. Obviously being a Liquid fan it sucks but if there is no time for teams to watch, demos, bootcamp, anti-strat,etc. Then it would have been "just another tournament" that Liquid ran over.

I mean, I see your point, but should a major not show who is the best team at this point. Making the major have totally different results kind of devalues them as "fluke tournaments" (not hating Astralis, they totally deserved it with the form they somehow found in the playoffs). A major should be represent the ranking of teams at that time. I think without the playerbreak Vitality, Ence, Liquid and Mouz would have made it further. It just brings disappointing results like PGL Krakow with two "weaker" teams in the final or the one team that somehow did not get caught offguard dominating everyone.

They lost against renegades after the break while beeing in the Chicago grand final and world Nr.3 before the break. So what. I know they were far away from dominance but should still have been able to beat Renegades with comfort. So yes I would still count them to this category.

At the start of the major they were dropping maps they shouldn't and looked just as 'bad' as they were before the break, but they somehow find top form when it truly mattered

The difference is Astralis dropped off after 1 fucking year of being gods and they still won BLAST and made it to playoffs and semis of big tournaments. They only lost to the top teams at the time who were ranked higher than them. Team Liquid dropped off after a few months of playing well, and after they dropped off they lost to teams they shouldn't like NRG and AVANGAR and couldn't even take a map off Astralis Astralis dropped off after 52 weeks at the top and not playing much tournaments. Liquid let a 2 month player break kill their form by alot. there's a big difference so the argument is valuable

But surely if you just intend the major to be about who's the most in form team at that point, then every game would pretty much be predictable and dull anyway, until the semi-finals. Besides, so many of the top teams were upset because they didn't practise enough and didn't cut short their player break in order to prepare, they can only really blame themselves.

They added "extreme aggression" to their game and blew the top elite off the maps ... Dev1ce kicking off with 4 frags against NRG ... it doesn't get more "flashy" than that. Astralis going FIVE ot's against NRG at the Legends stage ... Ence going down after 3-0 ... and Astralis suddenly finding wild levels of skill ... As an Astralis-fan it was a bit hard for me to watch ... but BOY! It was beauuuuutiful at the same time! It's a matter of being able to recognize SKILL, whether tactical, strategic ... cleverness and raw accuracy and firepower. CS:GO scene is so shit nowadays so I wouldn't be surprised if they win next 5 Majors because they're the only team who can show high quality game more or less consistently. I enjoyed Avangar matches though, but they are still young inexperienced team while Astralis has had years of playing at top level. Congrats to astralis. btw somehow this why cs go will take time to have its own The International. because the nature of the game itself, Valve still could't figure out how to nerf the game when team can be dominance like this. Having certain era for team is good, but at the same time it's make the scene predictable. if next year valve will host The International, i bet astralis will be the one that win it. which why until today i still enjoy dota 2 comp scene more than cs go, because there is no such thing as era in dota.
