device wins StarLadder Major MVP award

Astralis star Nicolai "device" Reedtz is the winner of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award of the StarLadder Major by HLTV.org and betway.

The Danish talent, who turned 24 today, capped off a fantastic tournament with a powerful final performance as he inspired Astralis to a convincing 2-0 victory over AVANGAR with a team-leading 1.71 rating.

device excelled especially in the playoffs, in which he averaged a sensational 1.47 rating, topping the scoreboard in all three series that his team played in the knockout rounds. His ability to find a higher gear in the decisive stages of the tournament was what ultimately saw him win the race for the award ahead of players like Dzhami "Jame" Ali - who was his closest rival heading into the final -, Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth and Emil "Magisk" Reif.

device showing off his MVP medal from the Major

device was ranked first for KDD (+81), total kills (313) and AWP frags (148) while also featuring in the stats leaderboards in seven other categories, most notably rating (1.26), kills per round (0.82), clutches won (seven) and opening duel success (65.8%).

This is the 14th MVP award of device's career, the second to come from Major tournaments, which sees him equal Marcelo "coldzera" David's record. It is also his second medal of the year, after previously scooping the honor at BLAST Pro Series São Paulo.

in reality he should have 4 MAJOR MVPS, cause he had highest stats in all of em
2019-09-08 21:01
He should have 3 magisk definitely earned his
2019-09-08 21:25
device almost singlehandedly cost them the Atlanta Major final lmao Kjaerbye 100% deserved that medal you could also argue that the FaceIt Major MVP could have (or should have, depending on who you ask) gone to elec or dupreeh
2019-09-08 23:23
They wouldnt have got there without device that is a terrible argument who cares about the finals when they wouldnt have even beat navi with a worse playing device Mvp is the best player in the tournament not just the finals
2019-09-08 23:45
device = great in quarters and semis, awful in finals kjaerbye = good in quarters and semis, great in finals Kjaerbye 100% deserved that medal. Higher base performance throughout the event, didn't completely suck at any point and carried the team in the title decider when it mattered the most. By definition, giving device the MVP would have been wrong. How can the most valuable player be bottomfragging/the least impactful in the most important match of the whole tournament?
2019-09-09 02:15
Device perfromed better than kjaerbye in every gs game quarters and semis 10 (dont remember specific stats from each map sorry if kjaerbye was better on 1 map during navi) maps > 3 maps
2019-09-09 02:17
device: vs NaVi - 1.38 (1st in team), great vs fnatic - 1.37 (2nd in team), great vs VP - 0.89 (5th in team), bad Kjaerbye: vs NaVi - 1.11 (2nd in team), good vs fnatic - 1.31 (3rd in team), great vs VP - 1.38 (1st in team), great - device peaked in quarters; Kjaerbye performed well. - Both had comparable performances in the semis. - Kjaerbye peaked in finals; device shits the bed. seems fair enough to me. Kjaerbye played good to great in all his games and peaked when it mattered the most, hence making him the most valuable player. device is a close second because he peeked in the quarters, but he didn't show up whatsoever in the finals (in that sense, it's not possible for him to be the "most valuable" player.)

The gs matters as well btw

Kjaerbye was the reason they even won in Atlanta. You could argue that dev1ce got them there, but Kjaerbye got them over the line while also being great during the rest of the games as well.

2019-09-08 21:20
this time it was definitely deserved. i was skeptical of some mvps he's gotten in the past because he would often have awful maps here and there where he'd finish last or other teammates would be much more impactful in terms of helping the team win. this time around he not only put up numbers when it comes to statistics, but also had a lot of impactful rounds and was overall doing very well in all of their games. it felt like astralis won most of their pistol rounds by having device kill 3-4 guys every time.

I just wanna question your statement, from where i see it, device is the most consitent player on astralis, short term as well as long term so it really confuses me how you can say the opposite and use that as an argument to discredit some of his previous mvps. Shortterm being tournaments and longterm being yearly.
2019-09-08 22:14
first of all what does "long term" has anything to do with an mvp which is a title given to a player for their performance in a specific tournament? secondly, the claim that device is the most consistent player on astralis short term is completely false. that title surely goes to magisk. device has insane spikes in short term performance or at least had in multiple tournaments in the past. this time around, as i stated in my original comment, he was rock solid throughout the tournament. there have been plenty of cases in the past where device was the top rated player on astralis if you look at the statistics from the entire tournament but in reality astralis wouldn't have won the tournament at all if it wasn't for insane performances by xyp9x, magisk or sometimes dupreeh. i remember series where device would be nonexistent to a point where dupreeh had to main awp or magisk would have to do insane triple entries with deagle or xyp9x pulling multiple 1vX clutches out of his ass to simply stay in the tournament. so yeah, im very skeptical of a player getting an mvp when he's rated slightly higher than his teammates, provided he is an awper and he is the star player so on average he is supposed to get higher numbers, yet he occasionally disappears or chokes and lets his team down.
2019-09-08 22:57

Denmark MeToxi
But dont you see what you're doing here? You're assuming that if device isn't great at every single moment then the mvp should go to the player who had insane performances at times. Like you just said: " i remember series where device would be nonexistent to a point where dupreeh had to main awp or magisk would have to do insane triple entries with deagle or xyp9x pulling multiple 1vX clutches out of his ass to simply stay in the tournament" But in what world does that mean that they should earn the MVP when device was the main reason they won so many other games? I stand by my statement that device is their most consistent player on a tournament basis but even if he wasn't then my above point should surely still be valid. You're just assuming that if device isn't their best player in 10/10 games but only in 8/10 games then magisk should get the MVP because he was their best player in the 2/10 games which also happened to be playoffs and then 2nd best in the rest.
2019-09-08 23:54
there is a difference between not being great and literally bottom fragging or forcing your teammate to play a role they usually don't because you are incapable of doing your part. device got some of his mvps in tournament runs where he had complete and utter screw ups that almost cost his team their run and still got the mvp because on average, which also included pubstomping tier 2 teams, he had better numbers. notice in my original comment i said "some", not "all" of his mvps. many of them were well earned.

I think this will be easier to discuss if there was some tournaments to base the comments on. If I remember correctly, the faceit major mvp was pretty discussed, any other suggestions? I did notice that you said some even though it might not have looked like it. And the fact is that Petar doesn't base his mvps on stats only. Just like he said before this final, device and jame was both far ahead of their teams, more than what the stats made it seem like. (Yes, you didn't question this major MVP but I'm trying to prove a point here.) This isn't the first time that Petar say something like this because he does it every big tournament. He also mentioned after the top20 ranking 2018 was out that device was a lot closer to top 1 than most thought but s1mple still got it comfortably. They really do a lot of work to decide who is the best player in a tournament. Tweet: twitter.com/Tgwri1s/status/1170711453411..

Goodjob Device my man. I believed in you guys from dignitas onwards and still do. Xyp is one of my favourites but device playstyle and personal treats reminds me of myself. How I play, what struggles I face. What great potential and peak form rest within me. Playing like the best in the server being able to compete against the best. Hate him or love him. Dude's a legend now. Maybe even GOAT of GO, along with a few names.

In term of achievements he is now the GOAT, but only in the heart of the few who like to watch an immobile screen with a cross in the center. No that is salty he has some amazing pistol rounds

He is a pretty active awp'er
