OpTic disband; players open to individual offers
The Danish squad has announced that they will be heading separate ways, looking for organizations to buy them out of their contracts with OpTic.
Following OpTic's run at the ESL Pro League Season 10 group stage, where the Danes finished last behind mousesports, FaZe, and BIG, Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen announced that he would be stepping down from the team, which was followed up with the official disbandment of the roster.
OpTic has been in a tough situation since the organization's parent company Infinite Esports was acquired by the Immortals Gaming Club, which owns a number of esports brands, including MIBR. As having competing teams in the same tournament is prohibited by most tournament organizers, OpTic has been up for sale since July, which MSL points to as the root of many issues.
Most recently, OpTic have seen René "cajunb" Borg depart to North just days before their ESL Pro League group stage matches, forcing them to scramble for a player to stand in. In the end, they were unable to muster a map win with Oliver "kwezz" Rasmussen filling the gaps.
With the situation at hand, MSL, Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke, and co. have decided to look for individual offers. The 24-year-old IGL noted that he is open to offers from North America and Europe:
"I have decided to bench myself. When I joined Optic, the plan was to build a strong team and buy out strong players, but because of OpTic getting sold, that changed and we have constantly been in a position where we couldn’t build a proper team.
"I'm open for all offers both NA & EU. My DMs are open. I believe that structure, reflection, and hard work are what will bring u to the top and I bring all those. I expect the same from the next team I will play for. I'm in no hurry, this time I want a team that I can believe in." - MSL
Meanwhile, k0nfig stressed his sadness about how the situation ended, and pointed out that his contract is running out sooner than that of MSL and Nikolaj "niko" Kristensen.
The following OpTic members are now looking for a new team:
Nikolaj "niko" Kristensen
Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke
René "TeSeS" Madsen
Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen
Casper "ruggah" Due (coach)
