Sharks, Isurus open ESL Pro League Group D with wins

Sharks and Isurus have kicked off their ESL Pro League Season 10 Americas campaigns with 2-0 victories over DETONA and Infinity, respectively.

A triple kill from Lucas "Lucaozy" Neves gave DETONA the start they needed on Sharks' pick of Vertigo, allowing the team to take five rounds in a row to kick off the map. Double kills from Ignacio "meyern" Meyer and Leonardo "leo_drk" Oliveira was what first put Sharks on the board, with the team taking firm control of the proceedings for the remainder of the half. Four frags from Vinicius "vsm" Moreira with the AWP gave DETONA their only other round, leading to a 9-6 scoreline for Sharks as they swapped sides.

meyern and company doubled the score of their opponents as a pistol victory led to a trio of rounds for Sharks. Multi-kills from Matheus "prt" Scuvero kept DETONA in contention as they ran back a six-round spree, but Sharks refused to concede as they once again found the key to their offense to close out the map 16-12.

Sharks have started off their ESL Pro League run with a victory

Sharks kept up the pressure as Dust2 got underway, fending off DETONA for the first four rounds thanks in part to a 1vs4 clutch by meyern. The two teams began grappling for control as DETONA fought back, eventually evening the score at 6-6, but Sharks once again pulled ahead at the end of the half for another 9-6 lead.

vsm's side were able to reduce the deficit to one round following a pistol victory, but a continued battle between the two sides saw Sharks prevail to take the momentum of the map and win a trio of rounds for another 16-12 win.

A two-round edge for Infinity to open up Mirage quickly dwindled as a quad kill from Maximiliano "max" Gonzalez helped Isurus find six in reply, giving the Argentinian side a 6-2 lead. Stellar fragging from Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa saw Infinity keep the scoreline close, winning five of the remaining seven rounds to leave Isurus with a small edge going into the second half.

A triple kill from Nicolás "Noktse" Dávila set the pace for Isurus following the side swap, with the 26-year-old continuing to find frags for his team. An ace from malbsMd capped off a four round streak for Infinity, briefly giving the team the lead at 11-10, but multi-kill rounds from Noktse, Gabriel "1962" Sinopoli, and Roberto "reversive" Themtham kept Isurus in control as they edged out a 16-13 win.

Noktse net himself over 30 kills on both Mirage and Inferno

Infinity began to bounce back on Isurus' pick of Inferno, taking five rounds to kick off the map. A pistol buy was what offered Isurus the chance to break through, with the team taking two additional rounds before Infinity responded in kind for an 8-3 scoreline. A trio towards the end of the half kept Isurus in the running, and a pistol win on the defense gave them another four rounds as they narrowly pulled ahead 11-9.

Three M4 kills from Jesus "sam_A" Taboada put Infinity back in contention as they took five rounds for themselves, but Isurus continued to battle back as Noktse and max each secured quad kills to keep their side in the running. A 1vs3 by sam_A allowed Infinity up to match point, but Isurus were able to force overtime with two final rounds of their own. A flawless CT-side in overtime left Isurus three chances to close out the series, with the team needing to make use of all them before managing to close out the map 19-17.

in past they just had their own league that gave top team spot to finals, it has just been merged with NA now but I guess they didn't want to take spot from SA teams and because of this they have their own group still, so top team makes it finals like in past. Difference to past is other teams also can qualify if they are good enough...

This Group is a disgrace when you look at the quality of teams missing out from EU. The level of the IT scene holds no value in establishing this fact!

They might have all the potential in the world, that doesn’t mean they should get free spots in big events, they can grind their way up like every other team. Giving it to them for free is quotation, and that is bullshit! Every participant should be there because they deserve it! NA/SA has always had more spots than they can fill with actual contenders, it’s boring and u fair to better EU teams.

ESL Pro League Finals is about the best teams from the biggest scenes in the world, not the absolute best from wherever they come from. This tournament is about finding the best teams in all the Americas. EU has NOTHING to do with it.

You know the teams that advance to LAN will play vs EU teams right? This wasted slot could have been given to a good team in the EU instead.

You can’t be this thick? This as well as the ESL Pro League Season 10 Europe are basically qualifiers for the ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals. A final where Europe get 8 spots, Americas get 6 and Asia gets 2. Europe will fill all 8 spots with good teams, while Americans doesn’t have 6 good teams so they waste spots on teams like in this group. Spots that could and should have gone to a better EU team.

You have some serious problems with understandings, so I will repeat: EPL Finals is a clash between the best teams from each region, which are defined by the regular season, that have qualifiers for it. No matter if the team is good or bad, if it made to the regular season, it can contend to a place in the finals like any other team from any of the other regions. And if you think that the best region should have more teams, let me tell you, IT ALREADY HAS! You shold be happy, weaker teams means easy win for EU kappa
2019-10-19 17:30

I know it already has, I literally wrote the speed of teams in my reply. My point is still, 6 teams from Americas is too many, they don’t have enough good teams to warrant that many spots. 4 good/ok teams exist (liquid, EG, Furia and MIBR) after that the quality drops significantly. Americas 5 spots would be fair, 6 is quotation. I don’t want free wins, I want good games. This is the reason watch NA qualifiers is pointless, the top teams win too easy. In EU it’s always a battle for the spots.

That’s what they are not doing, they are being given easier routes for being a poor scene, that is unfair. They SHOULD grind up like all teams have to.

well, if they are given a slot into real championships, they'll have the chance to make a bootcamp, scrim with good teams, have international experience. That's how it works. Not every org has the money to keep a team in the USA or UE from the beggining.
2019-10-18 14:50

And why do they deserve that spot more than a better team in an other region? Level of play is ALL that should matter. Anything else is just bull shit quotation where ppl get stuff based on who they are not what they perform.
