Vitality march on in Belek with victory over North
The French team had to go the full distance to move past a North side that once again showed their combative spirit as they recovered from a thumping on their own map pick, but still walked away as deserved winners in a match dominated by Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut, who is sitting on a fantastic 1.63 tournament rating. Vitality will now enjoy a two-day break before returning to action on Thursday morning in Group A's upper bracket final against the winner of the clash between fnatic and Renegades.
Vitality endured a slow start to the series on Inferno, but once they hit their stride rounds began to flow. They had North's players against the ropes with a five-round streak before Jakob "JUGi" Hansen came to life as he dragged his team into the game with some crucial AWP shots.
The first half ended with only one round separating the two teams, but it was a one-way street affair afterwards. Vitality frustrated the Danes with a very compact defense and won nine rounds in a row en route to a 16-8 success.
JUGi opened the action on Dust2 with a 1v2 clutch, setting North up for a 4-0 lead. Vitality then enjoyed a spell of dominance after a semi-buy victory and took a 6-5 lead, but things quickly went awry as they gave up an anti-eco round. The Danes rode that momentum to an 8-6 advantage before ZywOo pulled off a quad-kill to keep the deficit to a minimum.
Vitality retook the lead after a strong start to the second half, but then things began to fall apart. The Frenchmen were forced to operate on a very weak economy for a large spell, and, with Nicklas "gade" Gade in stunning form, North managed to close out the map in convincing fashion to force a decider.
The DreamHack Masters Malmö runners-up did not let that loss get to them and ran amok on Nuke. They recovered from a 0-3 deficit and reached half-time in double-digit territory with an impressive T side. Just like on Inferno, Vitality set up a very strong defense and took control of the game, losing just one round to a 1v3 clutch by Philip "aizy" Aistrup. That round, which came at a point when North were already ten series points down, did little in the way of revitalizing the jaded Danish players, who will fight for survival in the tournament against the winner of the Brazilian derby between MIBR and Imperial.
