WESG 2019 slot distribution, qualifiers announced
The dates and details for European, Asian, and African WESG 2019 qualifiers have been revealed.
Alibaba Sports, who is running WESG 2019-2020 in cooperation with U Can Company (UCC), have announced the schedule of the open and closed regional qualifiers which will kick off shortly, the first one starting on November 13.
It is important to note that the nationality rule has been softened in comparison to previous iterations of WESG, now allowing teams to feature up to two foreigners.
A total of 24 teams will compete at the WESG 2019 Global Finals, which will feature a $1,000,000 prize pool and take place in Chongqing in March of next year. The 24 slots will be distributed in the following way:
Some of the slots, such as the ones reserved for Russia and the Adriatic region, will be awarded through independently-run LAN qualifiers, while the majority of the slots will be distributed through a system of open and closed online qualifiers. For Asia, a separate APAC tournament will take place in Kuala Lumpur, from where two teams will qualify for the Global Finals.
Depending on the region, open qualifiers will yield one or two closed qualifier slots, with invited teams joining them there in some cases. For more details and links to qualifiers visit the official website.
