G2 overcome Virtus.pro; to face mousesports in cs_summit 5 grand final
Overwhelming favorites going into the semi-final, G2 didn't have a great time against the Poles of Virtus.pro, showing weakness throughout the series. In the end, Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač's inspired performance pulled G2 through to the grand final, where they will take on mousesports. The European mixture has been playing the event with Niels-Christian "NaToSaphiX" Sillassen and will additionally need to have Allan "Rejin" Petersen step in for Finn "karrigan" Andersen depending on the duration of the final.
Locking down the B approach on the pistol gave Virtus.pro the early lead on Vertigo, G2's map pick. Causing some issues for the Poles was huNter-, whose fragging was crucial to G2 bouncing back, as well as François "AmaNEk" Delaunay's 1v2 clutch that saw the French-Serbian side equalize at 6-6. However, back-to-back quad-kill rounds from Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski saw the advantage return to the Polish side, concluding the defense 9-6 up.
Virtus.pro extended their lead with another successful pistol round after the switch and reached map point quickly, 15-6. Then, some more heroics from huNter- and AmaNEk extended the map, but G2 eventually fell to an A hit, seeing the map concluded 16-12.
Bouncing back from a disappointing Vertigo, G2 started Nuke dominantly, pushing into a 7-0 lead on the CT side. It took pistol-armor vent dive for Virtus.pro to finally break the deadlock, with Arek "Vegi" Nawojski being crucial to the Polish side building that into a four-round streak. G2 didn't allow their opponents to grab full control of the half, though, finishing it with a comfortable 11-4 lead.
The French trio of G2 unlocked the A site defence and put their team into a great position to close out the second map of the series convincingly. As the score was 15-5, Snax and Michał "snatchie" Rudzki held their opponents at bay, but G2 eventually closed it by attacking the A site, 16-7.
Successfully retaking B on the pistol started Virtus.pro on the right foot, seeing the Poles take a 6-0 lead on the decider map, Train. After Audric "JaCkz" Jug got two kills to resolve a 2v2 on the A bombsite, G2 started rolling and came back to finish the half with just a one-round deficit, 8-7.
The second half started with low-buy rounds won by both sides, but after the score was equalized at 11-11, G2 managed to hold off a number of B offenses, streaking seven rounds in a row to reach match point, 15-11. The map and match was concluded shortly, 16-12, with G2 advancing to the grand final.
