MAD Lions pull off upset against ENCE to qualify for IEM Katowice

MAD Lions booked a spot at IEM Katowice 2020 after defeating ENCE 2-0 in the lower bracket final of the European closed qualifier.

The Finnish team's crisis deepens as they will miss out on one of the biggest events of the year, one where they enjoyed a dream run to the final in 2019, after losing two qualification series. The defeat to FaZe, who sit above them in the rankings, in a three-map series, had hardly come as a surprise, but the same cannot be said of Friday's contest, in which the Finnish team were simply outplayed and looked alarmingly devoid of ideas.

The qualification for IEM Katowice comes as a massive boost for MAD Lions, who continue to defy the odds. Nicolai "⁠HUNDEN⁠" Petersen's charges have enjoyed massive growth in the last six months and will now get to play their first Big Event.

MAD Lions will attend their first Big Event next month

A failed anti-eco against nothing but Glocks marked the beginning of a painful start to the series for ENCE on Overpass, where the Finnish team had been humbled by Illuminar the day before. Aleksi "⁠allu⁠" Jalli's troops then got a footing in the game and went into the break down by just three rounds, but MAD Lions' dominance was absolute in the second half as they quickly wrapped things up with a resolute defensive performance.

ENCE came out on Mirage looking a different side and began to build a decent lead early on. However, their improvements were undone once the Danes got into their stride, with three rounds once again separating the teams at the break. After switching to the CT side, ENCE could not keep up with MAD Lions' pace and never looked like troubling the restless Danes, who comfortably ran away with the game.

With the qualifiers in Asia, Europe and North America all over, there is now just one spot at IEM Katowice on the line, which will go to the winner of the Oceanic qualifier, scheduled for January 14-16. The Polish event will be held from February 25 through March 1, with $500,000 on offer.

xseven is really only okay in support. Sunny in entry wouldn't be any better than Aerial in entry, and Sunny's level as a potential anchor is probably higher than xseven's. Xseven isn't a bad player, I'm in no way shit talking the guy, but he was infinitely better with the AUG than the M4.

Imo they were really good, they made it to major grand final (might've been a fluke like most people say), but then they beat Astralis at Blast bo3, and dismantled them on Nuke, where Astralis had like a 34 win streak on LAN or something like that. They also could've won starseries easily if they didn't let S1mple ace clutch, Na'vi was already one map down and score was like close to match point for Ence, and Na'vi's economy would've been broken. Dont wanna say this but they really need to kick Aerial... He makes way too many stupid moves and times when he should get 2-3 frags he most times manage to get just 1 or none and he also have like 1/10 good games rest his below average. Also im sure allu IGL is not good they do too many same strats and hold same positions like mirage T side sergey is always in palace and sunny runs down mid to die. On the other hand xseven is good and sergey hard carry they need to replace aerial and figure their strats again very closely and fix the timings. AleksiB was proper igl and kept the team as a team. Since kicking AleksiB they have been running like idiots thru the maps. He was big part of the proper mentality in the team. He also was only real grown up man in the team, that made the difference and might be the biggest reason why they kicked him. Allu seems to live too much in the csgo world as you can see from his csgo 'jokes', tho he still manages to keep fragging, but i don't think his bringing the proper attitude to the team as you can easily see. Currently there is no fire or firepower in the Ence, so future for Ence doesn't seem too bright. Hopefully sergej finds a new team, tho he needs to grow up mentally to be able to enter international teams.

Funny, borup leaving from Tricked to Heroic thinking it is an improvement. Mad Lions are stable and actually still rising. I thought their ceiling was about top 20, maybe 15, but Bubzkji and acor keep on delivering and I am very surprised with roej. Hunden has the gift to make his olayers get the best out of them.
