GODSENT and GRID to host charity event

GODSENT have teamed up with GRID to create a charity showmatch event in aid of Barncancerfond, a Swedish charity focused on fighting childhood cancer.

The event is set to take place on January 17 at 13:00 and will be streamed on GRID's Twitch channel, where the GODSENT roster will face off against the data company's staff in a best-of-three matchup. The series will feature a selection of unusual details, including substitutions, random money injections, and mixed teams, making for an entertaining show for the viewers at home.

Talking the audience through the action will be Kieran "Kieran" Cullinan and Teo "oversiard" Siard, two familiar faces from the GRID esports channel, with the duo currently casting the United Masters League Season 2 playoffs.

GODSENT and GRID unite for an important cause

The chosen charity which the tournament will aid is the Barncancerfondon, the single largest financier of childhood cancer research in Sweden. GRID has already pledged €500 to the project and will also match donations from viewers during the first map, up to the value of €1,000.

The majority of the funds collected by Barncancerfonden will be used to finance research and training, while the other funds are spread across fundraising, information, advice and support, and administration, with more details on how the donations are spent found here.

"We are very proud to be part of this initiative in trying to contribute with what we can to a very important purpose," Ludwig Sandgren, CEO & Co-Founder of Godsent, told the Esports Insider.

"Childhood should be about being with friends and playing games and if we can aid in helping raise money for children with cancer, it is something absolutely worth doing and we hope that we will see more initiatives like this in esports in the future."

I mean its nice and all but wouldn't it be cooler for some big orgs to have a show match? Like if ESL hosted an Astralis v Liquid bo5 charity match would be fucking amazing besides both these orgs would be able to make donation amounts that could actually make some changes? Not hating on this just wish some higher orgs and tournament organisers did this as it would make a higher impact
2020-01-15 18:50
Those orgs only care about profit ma dude
2020-01-15 19:14
Thats not true man, all members of astralis plus the org donated big amounts to an organisation fighting cancer

+1 Or if ESL raised money at one of their events, like the Danish television Zulu CS did!

if there will be showmatch it would be better if it was an interesting one, something that you cant see anymore for example VeryGames vs 2013 NiP on old maps and old patches...

Nice idea mate. In my opinion big and successful orgs should also cut their direct advertisement partnerships with gambling companies. Influencing young people with that crap is just wrong.
2020-01-16 06:14
Yeah I agree but I think that Gambling sites are some of the biggest sponsors in esport at the moment, when it becomes bigger in the future and other brands start sponsoring they might drop the gambling sites

It's good and all, but as with most charity orgs the boss takes a huge cut of the donations. Barncancerfondens head gets about $8600 each month. Poor thing, can barely afford a third Mercedes to go with the extra beach house. I'm all in to support the fuck cancer race, but feeding the already rich with donations sucks.
