Renegades overcame Cloud9 16-10 on Overpass in their Group A opener, while MAD Lions narrowly defeated Heroic on Dust2 with the same scoreline.
Renegades opened Overpass with a flawless pistol round on the CT side, which saw Joshua "INS" Potter pick up a swift triple kill, with the Australian squad wasting no time in reaching a 3-0 advantage. Cloud9 responded in the fourth with a trio of kills from Ian "motm" Hardy, but the South African-American side deflated moving forward on the offence as Renegades, led by an unstoppable, nomadic Christopher "dexter" Nong, stormed to a 12-3 halftime lead.
Despite proceedings looking gloomy for Cloud9 with Renegades securing the second half pistol, Johnny "JT" Theodosiou’s troops displayed their resilient mentality as they locked down seven straight rounds, which included multiple clutches, to bring the score back to 10-13. Cloud9 were hot on the Australian’s heels and approaching a level score before a successful 2v2 from dexter and INS stopped Cloud9 in their tracks, with Renegades closing out the next two rounds to take the map with a 16-10 scoreline and set up a Group A winners’ match against BIG.

The first Danish derby in a group featuring three Danish teams did not fail to produce an entertaining match as Heroic and MAD Lions opened Dust2 by trading two rounds apiece. The pair of Lucas "Bubzkji" Andersen and Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen took control of the ensuing rounds with numerous multi-kills to put MAD Lions ahead at 6-3 on the T side. However, a collateral kill from Casper "cadiaN" Møller on the A site wiped out the oppositions’ momentum to allow Heroic to get a foothold in the game, with a further five rounds going in their favour before conceding the final round of the half.
Although Heroic ended the first half with a string of rounds, the team could not overcome their opponents' defence, with MAD Lions picking up four of the opening six rounds in the second half to claim an 11-10 lead. After a series of additional rounds from MAD Lions, a Rasmus "sjuush" Beck triple kill on the B site helped secure map point for the Danes, with a 16-10 scoreline materialising immediately after as Bubzkji finished the map with 27 kills and a 1.69 rating. MAD Lions are now set to face off against another Danish side in North in Group B's winners' match.
