mousesports fend off MAD Lions in London
The Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen-led side proved a challenge for the European squad, who denied their opponents the upset with a 2-0 triumph after coming back from 11-14 and 2-7 deficits on Mirage and Dust2, respectively.
The victory has already earned mousesports safe passage to the playoffs, but they have a chance to improve on that in Sunday's winners' match against Virtus.pro, in which a spot in the semi-finals will be on the line. In the meantime, MAD Lions will fight for survival against domestic rivals Heroic, whom they beat at DreamHack Open Leipzig.
mousesports set the pace early on Mirage, getting off to a 6-1 start on the Terrorist side. It was far from an easy going as they had to win some close rounds, and one going the other way was enough to send the European squad on a low forcebuy. MAD Lions were able to catch up on the back of that jolt, making the half as close as possible with seven rounds to their name.
Despite losing to a second-round forcebuy, the Danes continued their dominant run on the offense on the back of consecutive 1v1 clutches from Rasmus "sjuush" Beck and a couple of great rotations in 2v2 scenarios, which forced mousesports to save weapons twice in a row.
HUNDEN's squad didn't manage to complete the upset, though, with mousesports tightening up the defense to pull themselves through to overtime, looking convincing once they got there as a four-round streak earned them a series lead.
Dust2 followed with mousesports picking up the pistol round, courtesy of Özgür "woxic" Eker's defuse in a 1v1 situation, but it was MAD Lions who managed to come out on top of the forcebuy wars over the next three rounds to give themselves a cushion. Down 2-7, Finn "karrigan" Andersen & co. woke up thanks to a quick AWP quad-kill from the Turk, who was the only one to have a weapon in an otherwise full eco, in defense of the B bombsite, which helped them turn the half around.
After switching sides, mousesports were in control after they were the ones to capitalize on a second-round forcebuy victory this time around, and they cruised to a 16-11 victory with a dominant offense.
