KOVA, Apeks through to EU Minor closed qualifier

Nordic duo KOVA and Apeks have booked spots in the closed qualifier for the Europe Minor after coming through the third open bracket.

After an opening day filled with upsets, the biggest of which saw No.2 seed SJ eliminated in the second round, the qualifier got down to its last eight teams, and the culling of big names continued early on Sunday.

AGO, the highest-ranked side still in contention, were eliminated in a double-overtime clash against fellow Polish side Pompa in the quarter-finals, the same stage in which the world No.42, SKADE, fell against KOVA.

The Finnish side, who are ranked fourth in the country and 77th in the world, went on to beat Endpoint after just two maps to claim a spot in the closed stage - an historical feat for the young team, with an average age of just 20.6 years.

Apeks are through to the closed bracket

Apeks, who had survived close games against SMASH and Lyngby Vikings earlier in the tournament, went on to play out a three-map thriller with Pompa for a spot in the closed qualifier. The Norwegian team came back from three match points down to tie up the series in overtime before completing the reverse sweep with a dominant performance on Mirage.

The updated team list for the Europe Minor closed qualifier, scheduled for March 7-8, looks as follows:

The open qualifying process for the Europe Minor will conclude this week with the fourth and final bracket, scheduled for February 12-13. It promises to be a thrilling tournament as teams such as Complexity, GamerLegion, Secret and AGO will be vying for the final two spots in the closed stage.

it's always hard with difficult teams and 5+ games in a single day... they've gone much further than anyone ever before and we should be proud that they did this with 1 month or so of practice!

Every team must start from somewhere. Or do you think it would be better if LAN teams were chosen by highest bidder or by random without organizing online qualifications? Little less salt...

Why the hell is there so much hate and trolling in HLTV-comments? These teams just made it through a qualifier with tons of competition. EU-quals are brutal, just look at some of the teams that are attending. How about saying "good work" and "congrats" instead? I watched the apeks-pompa game and it was quite entertaining. Mistakes were made, but remember that the game was played at between 00:00-02:30 at night - Ofcourse its difficult concentrate. I wouldnt be suprised if we see more of some of those players the next 1-2 years. I don`t know about the rest of you, but I like when new teams are challenging the more established teams. If you think you can do better - Sign up for the next qual.
2020-02-10 11:52
I don't see that much trolling and hate on this thread. KOVA were great in Advanced season 33. One of the teams I would like to see advance to MDL. Apeks had a lot of mistakes against Pompa, but their other matches were pretty clean. Hope Complexity and Gamerlegion gets through to closed, but the EU open is brutal.
2020-02-10 13:44
I was thinking about hltv-comments in general, this is not the worst at all. :) I agree, KOVA looks very promising. Apeks maybe a bit up and down - Sometimes they are brilliant and other times they look very weak. I think its just inexperience at this level. Both teams will have their hands full in the closed qual. :)

Must feel amazing for these teams to make it through, it also shows how random these qualies can be and how many different teams have a chance, I bet not a one person out of lets say 1000000 would guess these exact 2 teams get through but still they did manage to do it :D.
