Evil Geniuses send 100 Thieves to BLAST Premier Showdown
Evil Geniuses have eliminated 100 Thieves from Group C at BLAST Premier Spring Series following a 2-0 victory in the lower bracket final.
Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz & co. have recovered from the poor start on day one of the third group, during which they lost a nail-biting series to OG that sent them to the lower bracket encounter against the Australian side. With the victory, they move on to a spot-deciding match in the group's consolidation final, where they will meet the loser of OG and G2 on Sunday.
100 Thieves kick off 2020 with a last-place elimination in the BLAST Premier group stage, but they will have another chance at qualifying for the seasonal finals as they drop to the Showdown, where Astralis, Vitality, NiP, and MIBR are also waiting.
100 Thieves picked Train to start the series and looked competitive at the start, with a second-round forcebuy victory in a B attack yielding them a couple of rounds, but soon Evil Geniuses got a hold of the map and never let go. The North American team's defense proved impenetrable, as they cruised to a 12-3 half, and with Ethan "Ethan" Arnold clutching a 1v1 in the second pistol round it was only a matter of time before they picked up the opening map 16-4.
Nuke followed, where Evil Geniuses' struggles with second-round conversion continued, but this time they replied right back once Tarik "tarik" Celik won a 1v1 to get up to a 4-1 lead as Terrorists. This time, 100 Thieves fought back as they managed to defend for four in a row, but a pistol win from the opposing side put them on an eco and EG ran away with three. Sean "Gratisfaction" Kaiwai answered with a USP triple of his own up against full weaponry, which salvaged the rest of the half for his team.
Although EG got off to the better start after sides switched, 100 Thieves looked to equalize the series once they put their foot down and went on a dominant streak with guns in hand, but three map points weren't enough for them to finish it off and the map went to overtime. There, Evil Geniuses picked up a perfect half on the defense on the back of tarik's and Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov's double AWP, with Ethan's quad-kill ending the series at 19-16, 2-0.
