OG outlast Evil Geniuses; qualify for BLAST Spring Series Finals

After struggling on their map pick, Train, OG bounced back in the series against Evil Geniuses and took a 2-1 series victory, qualifying for the Spring Finals in Moscow and sending their opponents to the BLAST Showdown.

The two teams met in the opening match of the tournament, when OG managed an upset victory after a marathon three-map game. On the second day, Evil Geniuses bounced back with a strong win over 100 Thieves, while OG fell to G2 to set up a rematch which decided the team to go directly to the BLAST Premier Spring Series Finals. In the end it was OG who came out victorious, while Evil Geniuses will join the likes of Astralis and Vitality at the BLAST Showdown.

Starting on the CT side of their opponents map pick, Train, Evil Geniuses claimed the pistol round win and won the first buy by stacking B, anticipating OG's push perfetly. Ethan "Ethan" Arnold's quad kill in round 5 extended his team's streak, and the match ver looking very similar to Evil Geniuses's dominant win over 100 Thieves earlier in the tournament.

As the score was 8-0, Mateusz "mantuu" Wilczewski was the only OG player to have more than one kill to his name, with his team coming close to getting on board in round 11 - but Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz clutched out the 1v2. The rest of the half was equally one-sided and Evil Geniuses finished it flawlessly, 15-0, but couldn't close out the perfect map as Issa "ISSAA" Murad's double in the pistol helped them avoid the 16-0. The international roster managed to grab four rounds, but that is where Evil Geniuses closed out Train with a well-timed B site push.

OG stayed in the game after being stomped on Train

mantuu and ISSAA combined for OG's pistol round win and the international roster were set off to a good start on Mirage. After being down 5-1, Evil Geniuses went for a fast Palace approach which worked out perfectly, but they were unable to break OG who instantly replied with three more rounds. The same pattern continued for the rest of the half and Evil Geniuses found themselves swapping to the CT side 12-3 down.

OG overran the B bombsite defense in the second-half pistol and showed no signs of stopping on Mirage, quickly tying up the game 16-3 after Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen's UMP-45 triple kill in the final round.

Evil Geniuses will look for a Finals spot at the BLAST Showdown

Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt's quad kill, holding the A site with a Deagle, earned OG a force buy victory after losing the first pistol on Inferno, but Evil Geniuses were able to instantly bounce back with their own force and take the early lead as Terrorists (4-2). Some good play from Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså helped OG pull ahead, reaching a 9-5 advantage before Evil Geniuses grabbed the last round of the half by breaking into B.

Aleksib's swift Glock hat-trick gave OG the second pistol, but they were unable to break through their opponents' force-buy and Evil Geniuses built on that success, edging into the lead at 11-10. That was short-lived, though, as OG found weakness towards B and exploited it to get to 13-11. The North American side had to edge out three close rounds to keep their head above water, with both teams having almost no money in their bank at 14-14. NBK- and valde resolved the 2v2 after plant in that round and OG capitalized in the economy advantage to claim a 16-14 win and a 2-1 for the series.

They could pretty much handle their business on their own but getting invested in by NA gave them more possibilities.
2020-02-17 06:14
And if u really think that the major they've won belongs to NA just because of the org, then u just make NA cs community look even more stupid.

no1 from this generation really cares about their esports careers besides money...as long as hes making 30k/month on ence hes happy
2020-02-16 22:35
ence and 30k month, good joke bro... it isn't all that big org and in finland it is limited how much they get from sponsors etc. because ultimately sponsor market is way more limited there. It is pretty clear Aleksib makes way more money in OG from his salary than ence guys can even dream of, they actually need to succeed and get tournament winnings if they want a lot of money. Also I would disagree with you really about what players want, most who raise to top want to be the best really and win major, that is pretty obvious, if you do not want that I don't think you will be pro in top team honestly because you will be left behind by those who want it and work harder to become better teams. What there exists are players who want to be the best but in their own terms, however even these players aren't just happy chilling and getting paid, they still want to win.
2020-02-17 02:43
ok so he makes 20k/month, not much of a difference...hes still making way more than the average person. Plus whatever he makes from sponsors and streams and prize money, it all adds up. I respect ur opinion on what players want from this game but i cant agree. Yes there are some that still have pride, but the get_rights of this esport are mostly all gone. I cant remember the last time i saw someone that was really upset that they were losing or lost a match. Everyones got a smile on their face no matter what the outcome of the match was. Thats bc they know it doesnt really matter, the only backlash they will get is hltv kids talking shit about them, and who really gives a shit about anyone on hltv?
2020-02-17 03:30
nah, no way they make 20k, only biggest orgs pay 20k+ and ence economically isn't top org, doubt they even make 10k :).
2020-02-17 03:31
theres no way they are making 10k, allu and serj can demand more than that. Plus like i said sponsors and streams and donations and whatever, it all adds up
2020-02-17 03:40
Well obviously I do not know but based on what people such as dekay who have a lot of connections in scene say, even teams paying 20k+ is not that common, so how would smaller org like ence match that? Seems simply unrealistic. Besides sergej and allu do not even stream xddd...
2020-02-17 03:50
yea i dont really know any facts either, im just assuming....allu is really missing out on money by not streaming tho, hes got alot of fans

It's the same the other way around when NA teams win tho. Ofc EU people are getting triggered when some troll states that NA > EU when it's quite cleary not the case. The thing is, we only have 2 top 5 teams and the rest is shit, our scene is overall to weak and unstable to yet match the general EU one.

When teams get more data on OG and their honeymoon period is over. It'll be interesting to see how teams manage and counter them and how they'll adapt and grow. The true test is still yet to come for them.
