North outshine forZe; to face FURIA in Group A winners' match
The Danish team, who are playing their second tournament since re-signing Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen, took down the second-highest-ranked attendee in Anaheim following a strong CT side display, which earned them a commanding 11-4 lead. The T side was a bit more shaky for the Danes, but a productive pistol buy eventually proved to be the catalyst for victory.
North commenced affairs on the CT side of Nuke, where the Danes lept into a four-round lead before Andrey "Jerry" Mekhryakov and company could show a presence. Dmitriy "facecrack" Alekseyev's outstanding triple with the MAC-10 put forZe on the board, and after some retaliation from their opponents, the Russians managed to put together a string of rounds. However, aggressive curveballs from North towards the conclusion of the half allowed the Danes a seven-round lead before the break.
Another fruitful pistol round for North meant the Danes would take the momentum a mile, stopping just two rounds short of victory. Once their economy stabilised and rifles were in hand, forZe confidently closed out rounds, edging ever closer to double digits. In an unlikely exchange of events, North upset the Russians with a pistol buy and found themselves on map point. Immediately after, MSL and company put the map to bed at 16-8 to seal a spot in the winners' match against FURIA.
