mithR to coach Apeks in Europe Minor Closed Qualifier
Former North coach Torbjørn "mithR" Nyborg will join Apeks on a short-term basis, to help out the Norwegian team in the Europe Minor qualifiers.
mithR departed North at the start of February as the team opted for a coaching staff change and brought in Jimmy "Jumpy" Berndtsson. After a two-week hiatus, mithR has taken a short-term role in Apeks.
The Danish tactician, who previously coached Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen's Tricked and ALTERNATE aTTaX lineups as well, will be helping out the Norwegian team in their goal to reach the Europe Minor. As the third-lowest-ranked squad in the Closed Qualifier, mithR is aware that "it won't be easy", but is sure that "it's possible to make the upset happen":
"Even though it’s going to be temporary, and only for the Closed Qualifier for the Minor, it’s important for me to stay active. I get bored with sitting at home, and even though streaming, analyzing demos, creating tactics and trying to improve my abilities as a coach can also be a challenge, I miss competing, practicing, evaluating, and the pressure that follows when attending something important. Also, as I'm half Norwegian, it's a good way for me to practice my Norwegian and eat some of that 'myseost' and 'fenalår'.
"I'm not going to try and change a lot of things. It's not possible to make a lot of changes with the time we have, but I can help perfect some of the things that they’re already doing right, and help them prepare for some of the opponents in the qualifier that I've been competing against many times during my time in North." - mithR
Apeks CEO Denise Anfinnsen noted that they are excited to bring in a coach with international experience and hopes that their current coach, Pål "Polly" Kammen, will develop and learn from mithR:
"When the opportunity to bring in a coach with international experience to help us in the preparations for the closed qualifier we had to take it. This will give our players new perspectives as well as knowledge. Coach Pål "Polly" will be able to learn from a coach who has been in his shoes before. We are always looking for new possibilities to strengthen Apeks", - Denise Anfinnsen, CEO of Apeks.
mithR will join the team in Oslo, Norway for final preparations and is expected to return to Denmark on Monday, March 9.
Apeks have the following roster:
Erik "truth" Hansen Dyrnes
Kristian "akez" Kornbakk
Ole "Marcelious" Kristian Langan
Haakon "Radifaction" Tholo
Sander "Grusarn" Iversen
Torbjørn "mithR" Nyborg (temporary coach)
Pål "Polly" Kammen (coach)
