Quartet qualifies for Europe Minor

The first four teams through to the ESL One Rio Europe Minor are fnatic, Complexity, Heretics, and NiP, after they passed the upper quarter-finals in the closed qualifier.

The Frenchmen around Fabien "kioShiMa" Fiey continued to surprise after first taking down OG in a convincing series before also sending Heroic to the lower bracket with another 2-0 victory, becoming the first team to clinch a spot at the Europe Minor.

fnatic followed closely behind, coming out on top of a nail-biting Swedish derby with Dignitas, which went to overtimes on the first two maps before Maikil "Golden" Selim's side prevailed thanks a dominant Overpass performance that saw them pick up a flawless CT side.

Complexity advanced undefeated after being invited last-minute

Having been invited as a last-minute replacement for MAD Lions, Complexity certainly took full advantage of the second chance and pulled through undefeated, as well, after securing uncontested series victories over Sprout and GODSENT.

Meanwhile, NiP rounded out the first day successfully despite a tough start in the opening round against Apeks, who gave the Swedes a run for their money. In the upper quarter-finals, Jonas "Lekr0" Olofsson's squad clinched the fourth spot over BIG, who had just returned from their successful campaign overseas in the FLASHPOINT Global Qualifier.

The first four teams advancing to the Europe Minor once again are:

No one has been eliminated from the closed qualifier yet, as the lower bracket will be played out on Sunday, when the other four teams who will travel to Rio de Janeiro in late April will be found.

They are playing the winner of smash vs. Movistar riders at 15:00 They are historically bad against Movistar and on top of that BIG made a lot of stupid mistakes in key rounds today against NiP, this could’ve easily been a 1-1 now really, I’m honestly scared for them
2020-03-07 23:53
They WERE bad against MovistarRiders with the old lineup tho... now BIG is better than them for sure 100%. Dont worry BIG is still a big jetlagged im pretty sure they will dominate tomorrow! #GoBIG

Afaik Big are the only ones from EU having been in the Global Qualifier for Flashpoint - both their potential opponents are beatable but it's only one chance for everyone, you lose, you're gonna be massively dissapointed. Aside from teams like Kova and Apeks who I think can consider themselves proud to even be here, maybe one of them can take down the OG boys or Nordavind and even get in the Minor who knows :) GL to the teams, up your game overnight and we'll see who throws and who goes ham!
2020-03-08 04:46
I am pretty sure they are still at LA lol. they got Flashpoint at LA next week Will not make any sense if they travel back and forth like that

They're in Germany, they were playing EU FPL last night. It would be pretty hard to play the EU closed qualifier from the west coast of NA, they'd have at least 140ms.

CoL lol Such a lucky team, how much they paid to buy out Mad Lions spot in qualifier?
2020-03-07 23:50
ESL is just insanely biased at that point, makes no sense to invite coL when there were teams that came further in the quals

2020-03-07 23:56
AGO for example had all in all better results in the open quals and even when we only take the last Open qualifier into account then Illuminar was 3-4th just like complexity

Why tf would ESL not invite the highest rated team that finished the highest at the last qualifier? You guys are stupid as shit lmao
2020-03-08 00:29
Illuminar finished Same place at the latest qualifier and AGO had overall the better results in them. I can see why ESL did it but I still think they should’ve played that out
2020-03-08 00:36
Maybe they take the best ranked team in their rankings?
2020-03-08 00:50
They are close to qualify in the Forth Open Qualifier
2020-03-08 00:03
Yeah but just as close as illuminar, they could’ve at least played it out in a quick BO3
2020-03-08 00:07
#15 vs #46 in HLTV ranking I don't really think a quick BO3 will make any difference after looking at Illuminar recent results
2020-03-08 03:17
But it’s an online qualifier and complexity was pretty shit online up until this point Their ranking difference only comes from one single lan event (And yes I agree that coL probably would’ve won that, I just think it would’ve been fair)

AGO didn’t make Top 16 in all their appearances however. CoL did, as well as making it to top 4 twice
2020-03-08 00:15
How are the biased? CoL was the best rated team not already in the qualifier and with them going 2-0 they prove they were the right team to pick.
