Flashpoint Phase 1 groups determined

The participating teams in Flashpoint 1 have learned their first-round opponents following the group selection process.

The group selection process began with the top three seeds according to HLTV.org's ranking - MAD Lions, FunPlus Phoenix and Gen.G - being split into separate double-elimination groups. The captains of each team, Lucas "Bubzkji" Andersen, Casper "cadiaN" Møller and Sam "s0m" Oh, proceeded to pick their first-round opponent.

The subsequent selection rounds saw the captains of the teams who were most recently assigned choosing a team into their groups - a process that was repeated until all groups were complete.

Flashpoint 1 will start on March 13

The teams who were selected last then had the option to swap teams between two groups (subject to veto) or to swap the positions of two teams within their group, this way changing the match-up of a first round.

Luka "emi" Vuković passed his team's opportunity to swap, while Richard "Xizt" Landström brought Orgless over from Group A, sending HAVU in the opposite direction. Finally, Epitacio "TACO" de Melo decided to swap Chaos from Group B to C in order to avoid an early clash with Cloud9, a team the Brazilian wants to face in the playoffs.

Below you can find the groups in full:

Group C
Denmark FunPlus Phoenix
United States Cloud9
Canada Orgless
Sweden Dignitas

Note: Flashpoint has announced that it has swapped Groups B and C.

The match-ups for the first round are the following:

Group A:

Denmark MAD Lions vs. Finland HAVU
Denmark Copenhagen Flames vs. Europe c0ntact

Group B:

United States Gen.G vs. North America Envy
United States Chaos vs. Brazil MIBR

Group C:

Denmark FunPlus Phoenix vs. United States Cloud9
Canada Orgless vs. Sweden Dignitas

All matches in Flashpoint 1 will be played in a best-of-three format. After the end of the first phase, the teams will compete in another double-elimination group stage which will feature the same selection process.

The eight teams with the most points accumulated over the course of the two group phases will progress to the double-elimination playoffs, which will run from April 9-19. The complete schedule can be found here:

Idk Chaos is so bad and Envy remains to be seen maybe more firepower than MIBR but new and a mix. And you only have to beat out 4 Teams after two group phases. Not an MIBR Fan but i am pretty confident they are going to make it. Also MIBR very important Founding Member and Big Fanbase... Pretty sure Flashpoint would like to see them in the Playoffs.
2020-03-12 22:56
Lmao what are you implying, that they're gonna rig the tournament in MIBR's favor because they have a big following?

It’s more comfortable for them to play teams they are used to but most of them just didn’t really care you can see it
2020-03-12 21:06
More fun with mixed groups, screw the "It’s more comfortable for them".
2020-03-12 21:16
I agree but that’s how they set the system up let the teams pick instead of mixing them all up
2020-03-12 21:25
Yeah. But imo the teams/captains did a bad job. Especially since its like i said in #15.

Bruhh, ofc there's no tier 1 team. I dont know how csgo tournament schedule works, but you already know right? That tier 1 already have attending into ESL pro league right? Don't tell me you didnt know that too... , And if they even wanted to attend into this tournament, i think that would be kind a impossible, because they just finished IEM like last week.... And they already attending on ESL Rio too, soo.. you know what i mean.

Yeah but wasn't Heroic and FPX listed yesterday? Like both but unknown if Heroic field anyone?
2020-03-12 22:49
Oh I'm not sure on that tbh. My understanding is that the 'old' heroic roster is now FPX and will be competing as FPX in flashpoint. Past that I don't know what Heroic is doing.

I was pleasantly surprised with how structured (in relative terms) they played in the open and closed minor quals, I think they will be pretty consistent. That being said, playing with GuardiaN will be different, and Xizt said they will keep it simple, because of the lack of practice and the changed language.

So what kind of article you suggest they make, not like fpx has written anything about it either, also this article doesn't really threat it as rumour either but rather something that has happened so seems truly pointless to write anything further about it unless fpx actually would comment about it maybe.

I thought WESG is kinda free big money, but this seems the new level. Couldn't there be better chairs for the players when they were seated? With all that money and quality production..
